Hello Gang,

My Filipina wife (who is now a dual citizen), our US born son, and I will be traveling to Metro Manila from March 19-30 with our US passports.

We did a Report of Birth of our son through the local Philippines consulate after he was born a year and a half ago.  It went through the DFA properly (we have the info) and should be in the PSA records now.

I’d like to get an official PSA birth certificate of my son.  We initially tried eCensus online, as we did for our PSA marriage certificate a while back, but their credit card payment system has been inoperable for several months now, so that doesn’t seem an option.

So since we will be in Manila, we thought we might as well try and get one in person with the PSA while there.  I was wondering if someone (Hank?) who has gone through the process of applying in-person for a copy of a PSA birth certificate of a child born abroad could tell me where to go, what’s required, cost, and if it can be picked up in person in a week or less (or better yet, processed and picked up same-day).

Thanks in advance!

Head over to  PSA Aseana* , that is where we usually go as we can get our documents within a couple hours.     I don't remember costs,   maybe P150-200.   (get a couple extra )

*Ground Floor, Lifestyle I Building, Hobbies of Asia, 8 Pres. Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard, Pasay City, Metro Manila, Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines   (just north of MOA)

Sucks that the online CC payment system doesn't work ... still.     Welcome to the Philippines.  ;)

You apply for the documents on the front side, then after that is completed you walk around (outside) to the back side to receive the documents.

Thanks Hank!  Any documents we need to bring besides our US passports?

DON’T do the foreign correspondence bank wire, unless you want to lose $20.

I thought about doing that but then I read the fine print and said hell no. When they tell you that they will mail it upon receipt of the fund in 4-5 months. I was like OMG.

Passport for ID is good.  Do you have a copy of the ROB document from completing Report of Birth through the consulate?   Maybe bring that also.     (BTW don't be surprised to see the Philippine birth certificate looks exactly like the ROB document you filed, just the same you do need the PSA copy for DFA when getting a passport)

Yes I’ll bring a copy of the ROB, and yeah it will probably look the same.  Our PSA marriage certificate looked the same as the ROM with the only exception being there was an added PSA logo stamp.

Got it today, and yes, it was just a photocopy of the ROB onto yellow paper, with the PSA stamp and some additional stuff written on the bottom.  Took us 8 hours too, which seemed rather silly for such a thing, but it is what it is. And thankfully this seems to be the last thing we will have to do in regards to official documentation for the foreseeable future, our 5 year journey from K-1 to dual citizenship now fully complete.

Congratulations and hope your having a great trip! My asawa told me all about the horror stories of waiting in HUGE lines for pretty much any government run entity there, so I won't be to surprised either once we do the same for our child and my wife's change in her passport. We filed our ROM and ROB around February this year (San Francisco consulate) and within 2 weeks we got the completed and unofficial/official packet back so hopefully when we go visit the Philippines in October we can pick up our daughters PSA also. We will make sure to bring all the info that was mentioned here, love this site for it's info and support!
