I know some people have shared experiences but I want to get this straight...

I got a speeding ticket in Indiana last year (just driving though on the interstate) and got a ticket for speeding from an over-zealous officer. It was too much hassle to contest it, so I just paid it online, it was <$200. I know that I have to check 'yes' to state that I was cited, and 'yes' that I was convicted of a crime. I have a copy of the ticket, evidence that I paid it, and my Maryland drivers license that records the incident but declares I have zero points on my record.

I just want to know, will this be a problem? Basically, will this be grounds for denial? Is it worth hiring a lawyer? Is it worth not applying for citizenship and just staying a PR?

Thanks all.

It won't be an issue, since as you say, you payed the fine and you have proof of the payment----with traffic violations under $500 all that USCIS really cares about is that there is no outstanding fines.

It will not be grounds for denial based solely on the ticket alone, nor do you need to hire a lawyer.

Not it won’t! And yes! You must disclosed it and send proof that it got resolved. Make copies and take it with your for your interview just in case.

In my case, since moving to the States 6 years ago, my only crime was a speeding ticket, but because it was not clear for me, I honestly thought that only DUI and/or tickets above $500 must be disclosed (mine was $150 and not DUi related).

I didn’t disclosed it on my form (once again, I didn’t do it just to hide) but I felt I made a mistake later on by not disclosing it. For my interview I brought the ticket dismissal, and court records. Good thing the CO goes through the entire application with you question by question and told me that if I “forgot” to mention something when I was filling my application, this was the time to disclose it. So when we got to that part, I told what happened and that according to the instructions I felt it was not too clear if I had to disclose my ticket or not, but I wanted to come clean. She told me it was ok, that many many people even CO has the same confusion regarding this question, so she was glad I came clean and of course I provided the supporting documentation and I was approved and recommended for citizenship.

I share my experience because this is a common misunderstanding, it might help others.

So OP, answering your question, having a speeding ticket is not an issue. Even 2-3 as long as these are paid and not DUI related

You should be fine.  I had a speeding ticket back in 2015 - I had to mention it in the N-400 application - and although they did not require proof that it was adjudicated (I opted to do a Basic Driver Course online and paid the fine, $140), I went and front loaded that information on my online N-400 application/account since I had those documents at hand.

I was cited twice for the past 8 years - once for speeding and once for failure to stop at stop sign. I disclosed both tickets in my application and I also attached proof of payment for those tickets. During interview the officer only confirmed the tickets with me but did not ask for any additional information. I was approved with no problems.
