Hi all,

My wife is a USC but still in college ( unemployed ) so she has no income.

sure we will need a joint sponsor. However, some people told me ( one of them personally experienced it! ) that if my bank account has extremely enough saving money, we will not need a joint sponsor.

Is this true ? if so how much should it be ? I need some one who's sure about the answer because this matter is very sensitive on my situation.

Note\ Me & my wife live abroad and together, I'm working and she's a student .

for 2(husband and wife)  $20,575 is poverty level for spouse and you would need to follow these guideslines (income needed)

Item Number 10. Total Value of Assets. In order to qualify based on the value of your assets, the total value of your assets must equal at least five times the difference between your total household income and the current Federal Poverty Guidelines for your household size, however, if you are a U.S. citizen and you are sponsoring your spouse or minor child, the total value of your assets must only be equal to at least three times the difference. If the intending immigrant is a foreign national orphan who will be adopted in the United States after he or she acquires permanent residence, and who will, as a result, acquire citizenship under section 320 of the INA, the total value of your assets need only equal the difference.

This is under the instructions for the I 864 for order of support agreement

also says the immigrant can use his/her assests

or intention to reestablishment , I understand.

thanks everyone for answering :)

intention is the same thing. Sometimes they ask for the USC to travel back and re-establish herself. Like open a US bank account, get her voter's registration card, show that she lives somewhere.

If the intending immigrant's liquid assets (such as savings account) are comfortably over 3 time the income requirement, there should be no need for a joint sponsor.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
