Good Morning to all,

Have any of you here had success getting K1 approved without having a din hon?   We plan to have ours once my fiance is in the states since my family will not be able to attend it in Vietnam and she also has family here so there is no point in having it in VN.

yes.  read it a lot actually.

The definitive answer would come from the US Embassy in Vietnam.  The K-1 information page from the website does not even mention this

YMMV

yes,  its not a uscis requirement but i have read people getting denied because the CO did not believe it was a bonafide relationship since a din hon is traditional social norm in vietnam.   I wonder how many people if any have gotten approved without one.

USCIS does not have make the visa decision as the CO works for the Department of State

Although it is not a requirement, it is a tradition. My fiance is in a FB group. People have passed without one, but it does seem that the percentages drop if you do not have one.  Thats from reading over the past year.

engagement or marriage ceremony is not an requirement for K-1.  My fiancee told CO we are planning to have one eventually.    She got her visa.   Most important is to prove real and genuine relationship.  One way is to visit her as much as you can.  i visited her total of  4 times!
