Hello, i have a question regarding the three month residency requirement. Im currently in texas now and planning to move back in california (my residency for more than a year before i moved to texas) in February. I am planning to submit my n400 application once i moved back in california. Do i qualify for the 3 month residency since i have lived for a year in same california address in 2014 to 2015? Or i have to start a 3 month residency again before submitting my n-400? Thank you in advance.

probably best not to because they will have to transfer your file between states - it may be messy - also keep in mind to change your license back to CA and also do an AR11 Change of Address form as soon as you move back.

You will be asked for a CA license at the interview...

  • sending I130 05/16/2007
  • cheque is cashed on 06/11/2007
  • NOA1 in mail 06/13/2007 (who said 13 is badluck )
  • 07/30/2007 After no touches and no other signs we just got an email with the APPROVAL of I130....Thank God !....now what ?

  • 08/07/2007 Case received by NVC and case number assigned :))

  • 08/13/2007 DS3032 and AOS bill were generated

  • 08/14/2007 Emailed choice of agent ...i'm so curious when they will accept it...hopefully soon

  • 08/21/2007 DS3032 and AOS fee bill arive in mail

  • 08/27/2007 paid AOS fee bill
  • 8/28/2007 DS3032 choice of agent accepted
  • 9/3/2007 IV fee bill generated

Can you postpone your plans until after naturalization? Seems to be the simplest and less risky solution.

Yes but im just gonna stay in CA for like 9 months, if i move first before filing i have to wait 3 months again, i think its best to just do it now. I didnt change my license when i moved to tx so i still have ca license. The 3 months residency requirement is only for the state i am filig right and not to the state im moving?

the 3 months requirement is for ANY state you plan to file in . from Alaska to Hawaii.... also, you are not allowed to change the state while you apply... so if you apply in CA you have to stay in CA etc

9 months will not be enough for the naturalization process.... I filed beginning of March , only had interview 10/18 and still have not taken the oath ....the average times now are much longer because there was a huge volume of applications after the beginning of the year and still happening due to all the executive orders.....

also, because you have not changed your license, you will not be able to file in TX where you live right now....
