when you see the manipulative, sociopathic Frank Underwood...you have to wonder, how far for material did he have to go?

While the truth of who he and what he has done is quite disturbing, I wouldn't go so far as to say I can't watch anything with him in it.

I don't watch movies and think that much about the actors. That isn't why we watch a movie.

I agree with the general consensus that he shouldn't get another job in Hollywood, if the movie was already filmed and finished I probably would have just left it be. I honestly don't think it would have cost the movie that much attention/viewers. If anything it may have increased it.

At the same time - I really like Christopher Plummer.

Hmm. He's a great actor, but knowing what we know now, there is a certain creepiness to the roles he chose. What a waste of talent, or maybe he wouldn't have been so good if he didn't have that dark side to delve into.

There probably is some level of "dark talent" in a lot of very very good actors. They draw from a variety of things. Of course we all prefer them to draw from experiences, memories etc... that don't involve them being a predatory pedophile, but that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

I don’t disagree with your take, but I imagine the producers did a CBA and decided there might be too much of a backlash if the movie was released as is, driving down profits.  They must have figured the cost of re-shooting with a new actor would be less of a hit.

Maybe he was inspired by Trump?

Frank Underwood is a perfect recreation of Bill Clinton.

Hollywood is full of Kevin Spacey's....he is not and won't be the only big name actor with some skeletons in the closet.  This kind of things are a public secret in Hollywood. Difference is there are some forces working to get it out in the open, but it won't change much.

I never liked Kevin Spacey, it's something in the way he looks. I loved the Usual Suspects though and I probably will watch it sometime again.
