Hello Vjs

I am entering the Us on a K1 visa and I would like to inquire about getting a driving licence. I a have an Algerian full driving licence meaning I can operate on any kind of vehicule plus buses and big trucks. I inquire for how long I can drive with my Algerian licence once in the USA? and if my driving licence is not recognized how to have a USA driving licence in my case meaning someome who already know how to drive? do I have to start over learn rules and traffic  and raod signs and road test? or just an application to fill and pay fees and have a licence?

please advice me and guide me

thank you

Driving license requirements and recognition of foreign licenses are governed by state laws.

You need to google dmv and the name of the state you are going to be living in.

Okay you need to call you local dmv, each state is different, Texas you can drive with a foreign drivers license for 3 months. But like i said each state is is different.

I am from out of country and want to obtain a Connecticut driver's license. What is the procedure?
Please see Requirements for Naturalized and Non-U.S. Citizens. http://www.ct.gov/dmv/cwp/view.asp?a=805&q=244774&dmvPNavCtr=|#52346

This only tells you how to obtain it though, I don't see any info about how long you can drive on your Algerian license. Best to make an appointment as soon as you can anyway.
