Once your I765 is approved and you receive your EAD you can go to the Social Security administration and apply for one.

We have to apply for it even if we requested on the i-485 to have one made? I just figured they'd send the info to SSA and they'd mail me it.

If I am nkt mistaken there is not a SS application that goes with the I-485. You would have to apply directly with the SSA.

I already had a SS so maybe I overlooked that. Someone else might know better.

The I-765 Form was updated in October which it asked if you have a SS card or if you wanted one... Guess that’s what iulia.matey is talking about.

Yeah, it was the 765! I was just looking on the 485 and not finding it haha

I was not aware of the update. I filed early october and the form didnt ask that. They should take care of it for you then!! They should send instructions or something explaining how it works when they send you your EAD.

It's funny you mentioned the biometrics appt photo.

My husband made sure to remind me to look good in my biometrics appt photo, because when he did his biometrics for his N-400, he just came from the gym and looking, well, like he just came from the gym. Haha! All along he thought USCIS will use the photo he sent with his application, but of course they didn't and only found out when he already have the naturalization certificate in hand. Oh man, he wasn't happy that's for sure. Haha! *poor thing* So yeah, to those who have upcoming biometrics appointment, don't do it after your gym sesh. :D

That's a good story!

I'm going tomorrow morning and I know I'm gonna hate my photo but oh well... They usually don't show up super clear on cards like that anyways...

Can you apply to get a SS Card with same # after EAD approval?

Yes, in fact you should ONLY be getting the same number as it is against the law for a person to have multiple SS numbers.

Hey guys. I was wondering if USCIS is having issues updating the case status lately. The last status update I saw was from 11/17. A bunch of people in september has received their EAD approval notices in the mail with no updates online.

I know some people here on the thread are waiting for status updates so maybe they are having technical dificulties.

SS office will give me a replacement of my previous SS Card with same # just by showing them the physical EAD Card while AOS is pending?

Yes, because SSNs are assigned for life. They are not linked to AOS at all. So if the AOS gets rejected then you would still have your SS number. Now using an SSN without proper authorization (ie EAD or green card) is illegal and is another issue altogether.

Guys! Did my biometrics today in Detroit ASC.

I saw so many people coming in around 9.40 and I was almost sure there had to be somethine else happening like a naturalization ceremony and I was right!

Hubby was amazed at how many different people/nationalities were present. I felt such happiness for everyone as I know they are at the end of their (visa) journey.

Anyways, the room where they do the biometrics was practically empty, only one case before me and two workers so I was admitted right away and was out the door by 9.50 and my appointment was originally at 10!

Everyone was extremely nice so Michigan people, you're in luck!
