Good Morning, 

 

I need your help and some clarity. I went today to take my documents to be translated into english and I asked the lady if she will apostille the documents she said NO she will translate and notarize only. She said I must go to Trenton, NJ where I live to get it done. I'm so confused. If I do not get the documents apostille it will be returned back to me? Or will the notarized version suffice?

Are you trying to get them apostilled in the US or Dominican Republic? Or are you trying to get copies notarized? You can only get your documents apostilled in the issuing country which in this case would be the Dominican Republic.

 

If you are sending in a Dominican Republic marriage certificate, it does not need to be apostilled. Only send photocopies with the I-130.

The copies were already apostille in Dominican Republic with seal and bar code in the back of the document. Ok thank you so much you put my mind at ease. I appreciate your time to answer me

Nothing for the I-130 needs Notarization or Apostille. The exception is China, where the only translation accepted comes from a government Notary. (There is no "non-government" notarization in China.)

Did you happen to actually download the I-130 instructions and read them.  You'll not see the words apostille or notary.

Yes I did read the instructions and you are right i did not see anything in reference to anything being notarized or apostille. As Im reading here on the website from various members I thought that is what needed to be done as per their experience.

You only needed to Apostle the relevant US documents for the actual Dominican marriage (single status affidavit &  birth certificate). 
During your immigration process you will not need any apostles.
Although from my experience collecting documentation (police certificate.. birth certificates ect..) ... The Dominican officials  will say you need to get it apostle.. Just ignore their advice , save the time and pesos for a couple presidetes.
