Does anyone have suggestions about how to make flight arrangements? I will go to Guangzhou for my wife's interview and will stay in China visiting family for two weeks after. We want fly back together on the same flight. Since they say don't get tickets before the interview then how should  we make these travel arrangements?

Just an idea:

1.  Book round trip for yourself.

2.  Fly to China

3.  Cancel return leg for your trip

4.  Book one-way trip back to US for both you and wife after interview.

It is much easier than trying to book wife's one way back to US, then trying to arrange seats together.

what we did

1. she came with one way ticket.

2. We went for interview. We were approved.. Celebration and dance and crying going on

3. Wrapped up my life and said good bye

4. Booked a flight to my home country (and was tensed coz my passport was at embassy. God we got the passport 1 day before our flight to my home country). Spent a week there visiting temple and places we love

5. Found the cheap ### flight .. we wanted to book it but the credit card was not going through and we were pissed. Called the bank and sorted the issue and confirmed that we were booking tickets. Got the cheap ### ticket but the long travel time.. booking confirmed while roaming and being tourist at my home country. Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooooooooo we had date to leave to go home.

6. Date came by and jumped in flight.. Almost miised the flight in DUBAI 'coz the damm airport was too big and confusing and we only had 2 hrs.. Made it in just the time. And here we are home

@Op I agree with missleman.. Booking round ticket and canceling the return is sometime cheaper but remember some airlines have some stupid rules about that. Be careful
