Should I be worried?

I had my AOS interview on February 28th in Newark, NJ and I was approved and got the stamp in my passport. Since then I haven't recieved any welcome letters, approval letters etc. Today I went down to the SS office to get my SS card and the lady tells me my status hasn't been updated in the system and it could take any where up to 6 months to be updated. Since I have the stamp in my pasport I'm not too anxious, however I plan on leaving the country next month, my question is: since I'm not updated in the system, will I be allowed back in the country? do they just look at that stamp and let you go or do they look in a database? Am I over analyzing here?

p.s At my interview the Officer told me I would get my card in 3 to 10 days. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

As long as you have the stamp, no worries. Give it a few more days, after all it's only been a little over two weeks.

I recently had the conditions removed from my green card. Vermont told me that they would get the card out to me in a few days - it took two weeks.

I would suspect that you will get your card in the next day or two. If you haven't received it by the end of the week, then call and make an INFOPASS appointment and ask why.

It hasn't been that long. I'm just a rush put. Plus a few other people in my DO had interviews after me and got their cards already. I guess I'm chopped liver.

Indeed, that is exactly why there's a stamp, to show your status while waiting for the GC

The 'system' that SSA uses (called SAVE) is different from the USCIS 'system' that you'd be looked up in for a return to the US.

When you come back, the stamp in your passport is proof of your Permanent Resident status.

I hope your card comes soon! If it has not arrived within 5 weeks of your interview, you might want to make an InfoPass appointment (maybe right before you travel) to make sure your card order form did not go astray (that happened to us, but it was easily fixed).

You got the stamp and that's all the proof you need for now... you should get your GC in a few weeks but until you do you can do anythning you need to do and just show them the stamp in your passport.

UPDATE! I received my welcome to America letter today. Should be getting the card within the next 3 weeks, hopefully sooner.
