AARON P. BERNSTEIN

The GOP’s “skinny” Obamacare repeal bill failed to pass the Senate in a late-night vote on Thursday, with Senator John McCain among the three Republican lawmakers to vote against the last-ditch effort. Senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski also came out against the legislation. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called the 51-49 vote a “disappointing moment” after the final tally, saying the bill was an effort to make up for the “suffering” endured under Obamacare.

Thank goodness... I hope this is finally the end of this particular bit of ridiculousness, and the US can keep making baby steps towards health care for all it's people.

This "skinny repeal" would have done nothing but raise rates across the board for everyone who has insurance because it removed the mandates requiring everyone to carry insurance and employers to offer it. The republicans had over 6 years to come up with a different plan and they've got bupkis. There are really very few ways to do a universal healthcare system and be successful, but each one of them requires everyone to be all in. You can't give people the choice of whether they want it or not, it simply won’t work. That's why I'm in favor of a single payer system. Eliminate the employers involvement in healthcare, (they really shouldn’t be burdened with it to begin with) and make it a tax for everyone.

Maverick pulls through! What a disaster for the GOP. SEVEN years to come up with something superior to the ACA and it's an EPIC fail. It's time for a bipartisan bill, try to improve the ACA or head toward single payer.

McCain, a true hero!

Murkowski didn't give in to Trump's bullying. Well done Collins, too.

What a day!!!

It takes a woman to stand up to Trump, apparently.

It was only 8 pages, written over lunch, and introduced at 10pm with voting set for 12am. Questions weren't allowed. No wonder it didn't pass.

I give McCain, Collins and Murkowski a lot of credit for standing up to Trump and the rest of the repubs that don't care what happens to the people so long as the ACA is repealed.

I thought women lost their freedoms under Trump. Didn't they get the memo? So why do leftist women flap their gums so much as if they still have them?

The bestest!

Trump spoke with McCain over the phone while he huddled with Pence.

not interested, Don; let me show you a real hero, McCain said.

Donnie weeped.
