Virginia's gun laws are pretty relaxed, so it's possible he didn't need to show ID. (Besides, there's no way to make a law that just says 'immigrants must show ID'; *everyone* would have to.)

There's a lot we don't know yet, but they seemed to identify him from a receipt for a gun found in his bookbag.

I strongly suggest reading VA law regarding the legal purchase of a firearm. I think a statement based on facts is needed here.

and

http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms_VFTP.shtm

Identification and Residency Requirements

A primary and secondary form of identification must be presented to the firearms dealer at the time of purchase of any firearm except an antique weapon, or replica of an antique weapon.

(I don't think the firearm used fits the description of a primitive weapon)

I made the comment about Kent State. No where did I mention anything about the shooters. All I said is THE PICTURE on the first page of this thread REMINDED ME of what happened in Ohio decades ago. I also said I did not know why, other than it did.

My apologies for slobbering sentimentally over the past.

I didn’t mean to sound confrontational. I’m sorry if it sounded like I was. I can understand your feelings and how the images brought back memories.

My goal was to encourage people to do a little research and know the story behind Kent State to keep from making false assumptions.

I work with a woman who's daughter goes there. She got a call on her cell phone this morning, we heard her yell "OH NO!" and she just took off like a bat out of hell. We haven't heard from her and we're almost afraid to call to find out how things are.

This tragedy has my small community in tears. :(

I was wondering if you knew anyone there, Sharon. Even here in DC, there seem to be a lot of ties to Lynchburg and VA Tech.

I hope all is well with your coworkers daughter. (F)

It breaks my heart to tell you all that the woman's daughter is not ok....she was killed by that azzhole. :( She was his 2nd victim apparently he walked into her dorm and just shot her for no reason whatsoever. She'd just graduated from nearby Rappahannock County High School last year and was pursuing an education in veterinary sciences. She worked part-time at the local vet's office (our cow vet's office, actually)

Emily was only 19 years old....

God please, spare all the families and friends of this terrible tragedy from anymore heart-ache - this community is in deep mourning today.

And I can't seem to stop crying over it...just too close to home, ya know?
