Hello everyone,

I have a few question for anyone one in a similar situation as myself, or has knowledge of the requirements. Sorry if this has been asked before, I just want to be 100% positive.

I am a US citizen living in the US. I am getting married to Canadian permanent resident on August 19th 2017. She is originally from the Philippines and her and her family moved to Canada about 8 years ago. She has a daughter that will be coming to the US as well, that I will be adopting. She is not my biological child. I have been reading and the CR-1 process does not seem complicated, but having the child involved makes me more nervous. If it was just my (future) wife I would just file the paperwork myself.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did you hire a lawyer? Do I need to adopt her before they come here, or is that something I can take care of after the immigration? Does her being a Canadian PR matter, in regards to processing time, paperwork etc. ?

Thank you for the help,

Matt
