The US citizen files the i-129f petition. The foreigner applies for the K-1 visa. The DS-160 is the visa application, you need to have an approved i-129f petition before you can submit the visa application. However, you could fill out the DS-160 anytime you like and then save it on your computer and submit it later on.

It took 10 months from when my husband filed the i-129f petition until I had the visa in hand.

Florida is not a country.

Some get their visa in as little as 4 months, some wait for a year or more, so it's hard to give an exact time. The average here on VJ seems to be somewhere around 6 to 8 months.

For most of the countries on this forum there are Portals that take you to country specific info. Now for some of the countries like ours(Trini here) these portals provide minimal info but what I do is type in my country in the search here on this site and see what comes up. Do it for your country and I am sure you will find a few reviews from people who went through the process

K-1s are currently taking 6-8 months on average from filing to approval. Some have it in 5 (and a few in 4), and some are 12-24+ months, depending on how things go with AP. There's no way to predict a definitive timeline, and no firm plans (i.e. decisions that cost money) should be made until the visa is in hand.
