No, Planned Parenthood is not a government run organization at all such as the DOT or schools. So it should NOT be getting my tax money at all. Sorry but property taxes have been paying for schools because schools are run by the state and local governments, all the while PP is now.

But somehow, schools get all sorts of government funds, and we're all ok with that. Planned parenthood provides a service, and one that is needed by many women.

Well we're working on that. He's going in for a second interview with the VP of the college next week.. I hope this means they are serious about taking him on in the new position. They will give us a plan and pay for a good chunk of it, remainder will be about $150 every two weeks for both of us. I'm skeptical on how good the coverage is, but desperate times.

I hope everything goes well for him and both of you and I really mean that. Usually from what I have seen the coverages with Colleges/Universities are pretty good on average if not alittle better than what's out in the public market.

personally, i shut down when people start going on about abortion and planned parenthood. it doesn't matter how much you scream at these people about all the services they provide women AND men, all they care about is abortion existing - full stop.

I never said I wasn't lucky at all about that because I am lucky to have good insurance. But remember you and I live in California which has basically given out MediCal for a third of the population of the state. So basically anyone who is poor can get coverage from MediCal.

By all means, we are the lucky ones. In some states you're SOL, and worse now as the new bill rolls back some of the Medicare expansion.

Religious institutions are not gov't run entities yet they are tax exempt.

Abortion as a service? It has come out that a fair number of PP clinics do not provide prenatal care at all or mammograms.

I think that they should be taxed but at a low rate. I really do. I hate how a fair number of institutions are not taxed at all but supposedly provide a public good. So pay your taxes because that's within the public good.

Why should religious institutions be taxed at a lower rate than any other business?

Abortion is a service. Many women need it, and they should have access to it, otherwise women would not be going there for abortions.

Because they are religious. I think that would be a much better compromise than they pay no taxes at all.

Edit: Also if they were taxed just like businesses than a fair number of the small churches that I see down south would become no more.

Sorry but I'm not really seeing that as a logical argument. Could you elaborate a bit?

Why is that any different from any small business that struggles to make ends meet? Because they are religious they deserve gov't funding in the form of tax breaks? That doesn't float with me.

If you saw my edit it would explain alittle bit more. I see a fair number of really small churches that cater to maybe 2-300 people at the most deep in the country. Those churches are barely able to keep the lights on sometimes so I do think that if they had to pay taxes at the business rate then they would go under. But I do not think that they should not pay any tax at all, maybe a small flat tax type of thing. But churches do provide a service to the needy and the poor, so I would not like to see that curtailed at all. So that's why I say a small flat tax.

Most businesses that do not turn a profit pay little to no taxes, so that would apply to these struggling churches as well. That's not really an issue.
