Hi Vjers, I'm a new member here. I got to know about this website through someone's testimony on a forum website. To cut the long story short. I have a gf, she's a US citizen. I'm a Nigerian, I live and work in Dubai. We met through a social network and we started dating, we have never met in person. She always tell me that she want to have me migrated to US so that we can be together. Please how do we start the whole process/paper works. Thanks

If you guys are looking at getting a K-1, you will have to meet within the last 2 years preceding the petition submission. This is a requirement that needs to be fulfilled regardless of your supporting documentation.

 

So your first step is to meet and gather evidence from the meeting.

 

Given that your home country Nigeria is considered a high fraud country (despite your current residence in Dubai), it might be a good idea to have more than one in-person meeting. You guys can meet anywhere in the world.

I think what you need to do first is to meet her in person.. If you are going to file for K1, 1 requirement (if i remember it right) is that you must have met in person within 2 years before applying for K1.. plus you would need to prepare evidences that you're relationship is in good faith or legit..

To find the latest USCIS forms, please refer to the USCIS official website. The current fees for the initial I-129F petition is $535. Subsequently, the K-1 at embassy level will be $265 excluding medical expenses. The fees I mentioned of course haven't included your travel, stationeries, printing and any other expenses in order for you to put together your petition and application.

 

Once a K-1 has entered and gotten married in the US with the US citizen petitioner, you'll need to submit AOS + EAD + AP. AOS is currently $1140 + $85 biometrics fee. EAD + AP are free if submitted and applied concurrently with the AOS. AOS is your conditional green card while EAD is for employment and AP is a travel document required when your AOS is pending. If you don't travel with AP, you'll be viewed as abandoning your AOS application and cannot re-enter the US after traveling.

Thanks very much, it's very painful that some bad eggs are damaging the good image of Nigeria. So you suggest we meet more than once prior to filing the k1 visa?

Yes, I am suggesting that you meet more than once prior to filing the the I-129F. It would help tremendously when the time comes!

Yes. And if you can be with your fiance at the visa interview as well, that will help. As others stated, it's an incredibly difficult embassy to go through. After you've met and are ready to file, you should front load your I-129F (provide plenty of relationship evidence with it, even though that's not needed yet).

hi - OP said he is living and working in the UAE. probably best and easier to do the interview in Abu Dhabi (and not Nigeria). The Abu Dhabi embassy does not allow the US citizen to be present in the interview. Your US citizen fiancee can come with you, but she will be asked to wait outside.

Ah, true. Interviewing in Abu Dhabi is probably better. When I said "at the interview", I meant physically be with his gf...being in the actual interview if possible, and waiting outside (handing her his passport as proof that he's there with her for the interview) if not possible.

Ok, thank you guys for the explanation. So the first thing I will plan is for her to visit me in Dubai. Then we will take a lots of pictures, when she return, she can now file for me

make sure to save boarding passes, tickets, etc pertaining to the trip.. that adds up to your evidence of meeting each other.. if you stay in a hotel, save the receipt too..
