My law office clearly told me that they used in over 100 cases the equity in the primary home as asset and it was always accepted. This is even written in the AOS instructions. Her on VJ is no single report that a US based house equity would not be accepted if documented well. Add the adoption support and the house equity additional and you should be good to go.

Thank you and that's a great piece of information, we were thinking of the same thing.

B-) we did it ourselves. We used the home asset, with a good appraisal, and included the adoption subsidy. The I-864, with all the documentation, is on it's way to Ghana, now. It will be sent to the consulate, via DHL next week, and then we await the outcome. Thanks for all who weighed in. It was very helpful in finally making our decision. Prayers are needed, and appreciated. :innocent:

"Accepted" can mean lots of different things.  I don't think anybody intended to give the impression an affidavit of support that included the documented equity in the primary home would be "rejected" (the opposite of accepted) by the Consulate or NVC.  Accepting an affidavit is not the same thing as "considering" the asset as liquid.  Consular officers "consider" the totality of circumstances, which totality certainly can include equity in the primary home.  However, in and of itself, equity in the primary home is not (by USCIS definition) considered "liquid".  Don't confuse an affidavit being accepted and a visa issued, to be the same thing as "USING" equity in the primary home to actually "qualify"  as a sponsor.  Anybody who "qualifies" technically do so based on the totality of circumstances, even though for some, far fewer circumstances NEED to be considered than for some others.

My greatest worry in this case is that one of the key circumstances is that the beneficiary has never held a job.  Another is simply that it's Ghana.  Good luck.  Please let us know how it came out for you.

Congrats, I was sure it will work! Did they ask any special questions regarding assets?

Thanks!! We just kept checking the status and it changed to "issued" yesterday. No further inquiries at all!
