French candidates: Pedophilia is genetic, the Taliban still run Kabul and masturbation is better than condoms!

Nicolas Sarkozy, the conservative candidate for president, suggests that pedophilia is most likely a genetic flaw; Ségolène Royal, the Socialist, does not seem to know that Taliban extremists are no longer running the government of Afghanistan; and Jean-Marie Le Pen, the ultrarightist, recommends masturbation instead of free condoms to meet young people’s sexual needs.

I'm engaged to a French man, and none of his friends or family have a "constantly-adrift" mind. (minus the teenage cousins...!) That's kind of a weird generalization. Just because they appear more relaxed doesn't mean that their minds are adrift.

Well, the country has been constantly-adrift since 1815 (when Wellington and Von Blucher defeated Napoleon decisively at Waterloo); that, plus my two transit experiences @ CDG (that's the only airport at which I've seen an aircraft park 2 km away when there's EMPTY GATES AVAILABLE APLENTY)

No to Le Pen! He's a big ole racist. But I think Sarkozy has it locked down.

I don't get the whole "french adrift" thing. They have bureaucracy down to an art. I have to say, as a whole, any dealings I've had with the french government have been a lot more efficient than my experiences with the U.S. government . However, I will agree with Cherry XS about the airport. It is a bit nerve-wracking to get to the airport and to have to get all of your carry-ons down from the bin, wait for the people in front of you to walk out of the plane, get on a hydraulic bus, wait for everyone else to arrive, take the bus to the gate, grab your carry-on luggage again, and wait in line to get off of the bus.

Looking at this crop of candidates makes me glad I'm not French.

Having said that, it's not like Bush is any better than any of these three goofballs.

 I could pick a better (as in less harmful) president out of my sock drawer. :P

I wonder if pedophilia is genetic. Are there any studies that prove otherwise? Certainly research in this area could prove insightful and help prevent more abuse of children. I am absolutely not against studying the possibilities in any direction. The more information, the better. Better than to act on limited info or to stop seeking more info because we think we've got "enough".

About masturbation, hmm. Some kids are more embarrassed about it than having sex. It can be a good alternative with you have to admit, way less risks. I just found out my 17 yr old niece is pregnant. I believe she was using the Pill. Kids do need to know nothing (but abstinence) is 100%. People think sex is only for pleasure, and I'd agree if not for the issue of the presence of sperm every time. If we were intended to use sex as recreation, there would be days when men are not fertile and thus would have no chance of impregnating anyone. Biology has its own opinion on the subject, and so I don't think advocating masturbation is irresponsible by any means.

I support the masturbation platform.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I'm a supporter of using masturbation as an alternative to sex. I will definitely have open conversations with my kids advocating masturbation as a harmless alternative to sex. I would rather have my son spend all day in the restroom than bring home a pregnant girlfriend. I especially don't want my daughter, if I have one, have to tell me some day she is pregnant out of wedlock. There is nothing wrong with cranking it or vibrating it.
