Hello everyone! I am getting ready to send my husbands AOS package and both my parents are the joint sponsors but I am now confused on if Parent 1 fills out form I-864 and parent 2 fills out I-864A since they do their taxes together?

Thank you in advance :)

Yes, You are absolutely right. Joint sponsor 1 is your father who fills I 864 and since they file taxes together  your mother must  have to fill out I 864A.

You only have one joint sponsor... either mother or father depending on who has the higher income..

If one parent earns enough to be above the required amount, they fill in the I864. If the spouse's income is needs to be added in, then the spouse completes the I864a.

Well Dad has higher income but Mom has more $ than the poverty guidelines in the bank...but now I am confused on a question on form I-864....would my parents have to fill this out? This is what it says:

"Income you are using from any other person who was counted in your household size, including in certain conditions, the intending immigrant. Please indicate name, relationship & income.

Would Parent #1 put Parent #2 information on there or just leave it blank and have parent #2 fill out form I-864A?

Parent #1 puts parent #2 who also fills out i864a..

For my AOS, I had a joint sponsor as we had just moved to a new state and my husband hadn't started his new job yet. My Mother-in-Law was my joint sponsor and her and my Father-in-Law file their taxes together and she was the only signature needed.

That's if only one of their incomes was needed to meet the requirements. If both incomes are needed the 2nd parent that's part of the household needs to fill out the i864a. How they file their taxes doesn't matter.
