The president cannot declassify or share material?  Does he have to get the blessing of the 9th circuit first?

I am not sure but I am picking up some sarcasm in the questions. I think you know we share Intel with allies and we don't blurt it out in a meeting. Even i know that from Tom Clancy books.

Legally he can do so. I don't believe the objection is to his doing though. I believe the objections are to the consequences of his acts. The problem is not that he disclosed information, but what information he disclosed and to whom.

In this case, the Circuit Courts don't come into play, because he is not declassifying information based on an EO or any other instrument whose legality and content may be questioned.

Were you in the meeting?  It seems that with the NSA, SOS, and other intel officials there, the intelligence was shared appropriately.  It does in fact affect Russian business, and could be helpful in protecting their own citizens.  I know, the Kremlin could care less about their people (much like the US government all sides), but it never looks good if information that can save lives is not shared.  And yes, to your earlier response, Russia is in fact an ally in many areas, sure there is the whole Syria thing, but in space exploration, or other areas we do work well together.  Of course it remains to be seen how well they use this intelligence, I know we didn't do to well with theirs related to the Boston Marathon bombers.

I was joking about the 9th circuit, but the original comment I was responding to seemed to insinuate President Trump was wrong in his tweet.  Personally, I hate twitter, and wished President Trump did not use it, but he is not me.

I love America, but I also have a lot of family back in Russia that I also am very fond of.  Katya was not a stereotypical Russian Bride, and her (now mine as well) family are very dear to me.

I'm just giving you the lefts retorts to objective responses to their exaggerated outrage.

We are on the wrong thread but oh well.

I wish your family no ill will. We both do not wish any harm to come to the assets that may have been compromised getting this product.  I just think it didn't go down the way you laid it out but to your point neither you or I were in the room. And I do want Intel protocols followed for everyone's safety.

Here is a good question:  If this is sensitive information that was transmitted, how did we get these details in the press?

I know, just thought a little context was in order.

And that is the big question.  Who is leaking this to the press. Based on what I read, it may be some people in the NSA, so maybe this was done to find them.

The problem between nations hardly ever has anything to do with the people. We always figure things out. I used to travel to the USSR often, and on trains and airplanes, no matter how poor or destitute the crowd, everyone always brought food along, and everyone always shared, including with me. I could tell that some of the vegetables or sausages were probably home grown or made, and there was always the nondescript bottle of vodka to accompany the food. I got into the habit of traveling with crackers, Heinz catchup and canned tuna, so that I had something to offer to my fellow travelers. I saw the best of humanity in the worst of conditions, and realized the Russian people were not any different than us, which made the entire cold war seem all the more stupid and senseless.

You can love America and Russia, and all the other countries in between. That should not be explained - it should be commended.

Rueters quotes two Senior Whitehouse officials.  Either way this whole episode is raising serious questions at to what kind of circus Trump is running.

The point is that this whole tirade is about Trump sharing intel that may actually help people (no methods, or sources as far as we know), and the MDL is all about attack attack attack.  If this stops one plane of Russians, or Americans or Europeans or Asians from falling from the sky it was worth it.  And if we were so worried about ISIS finding a mole that has been gathering intel about their bomb making, I am sure they have been trying to figure that out when the original laptop ban was put in place.  Makes me wonder if the MDL is more interested in attacking President Trump than actually helping people.
