Really.  I am not a smoker, but aren't there actual criminals in Canada that deserve more attention?

LONDON, Ont. -- Harry Kraemer knows smoking isn't good for you, but it's a 60-year habit he doesn't want to break.

The 76-year-old owner of Sparkles Cleaning Service loves a puff or two when he's alone, sometimes at home with the windows open in his rec room, or in his Porsche SUV, minding his own business and away from others who could breathe in the second-hand fumes.

What he doesn't like are those he calls 'smoke police,' the Smoke-Free Ontario enforcement officers he believes have placed a no-smoking sign as a target on his back.

I definitely think it's a disgusting habit, but in this case since it was his own personal car for his own personal use and no children inside a fine seems a bit much.

Taking it too far as usual. This is what happens when you give government a blank check.

Does Alberta have the 'Smoke Police'?  I think this is a new television series just waiting to be made!

I've never heard of it here. But then again, I've never smoked a cigarette, and never will.

In some ways I can understand the backlash against smoking. Growing up I was around chain smokers (mother and much of my family) who didn't give a rats ### about the health problems they were causing me. It affects me to this day because despite never smoking a cigarette in my life I've got lingering respiratory issues (perpetual sinus problems) caused by others smoking around me.

I do agree that smoking in an enclosed vehicle or place, window open or not, is still dangerous second hand smoke for others that makes it through the another's lungs and body.. particularly dangerous for children. So in some ways I like policies that attack this sort of recklessness.

On the other hand, as usual with government, or by insertion of leftist outrage, I can see it being taken too far in situations like this, presuming the gentleman was telling the truth and no one was in the car with him. It takes news like this to remind people that people most certainly can and do take things too far. I'm just shocked it's coming from the Toronto Star.

Should be the same attitude with weed, it's just as carcinogenic. Causes just as many respiratory issues.

I don't think you can say that to a progressive.

They do seem in denial. It's funny how they recognize that so many other combustibles (cigs, car exhaust, and many variants of smoke) are carcinogenic but weed is just magical.. can ignite it, transfer the smoke to your airway, and it's not carcinogenic! Amazing!

I'm waiting for legalization (I imagine if Trudeau was smart he'd legalize before the election in a few years) so my wife can make edibles (and so I can get help from the doctors too about this, rather than experimenting). There are certain strains that help with ADHD (and I refuse to take ####### like Ritalin, Adderall, etc. ever again). No carcinogens in edibles, and you absorb far more of it via this method rather than smoking, which is, in comparison, a very inefficient method of delivery (except for smoke, it's very efficient at delivering that).

I agree, the products of combustion can be quite nasty.  When you heat chemical compounds up especially via a direct flame, many other compounds can be created many of them potentially dangerous short- and long-term.  Heck, even tobacco and nicotine have some medicinal value, but that can be negated by burning it.

I used to like incenses (insert joke about girly man here) because I have a thing for smelling good (either myself, my car, house, etc.), but after reading much about them online in the 90s I realized they too were carcinogenic and stopped doing it, since they only aggravated my sinus problems. It's just unfortunate that so many things that smell good (not cig smoke or weed) are carcinogenic. I used to have a thing for the smell of certain types of burning wood.

Wifey gets edibles from the dispensary, they have some good stuff there. Mint thins, cheese crackers(almost like cheezits), chocolates, brownies, molasses cookies, you name it. Expensive though...smoking is alot cheaper.
