My wife became a US Citizen by Naturalization when her son was 10. I know he became a US Citizen as soon as she became one. After her ceremony they mentioned that we should get his Citizen certificate before he becomes 18 and goes to college. This was 6 years ago, and was told the fee was in the $500 range. We did get him a US passport. Does anyone know if we need to obtain a US Citizen document for him? If so what form? Is it the N-600 form? That has a few of $1170.

 

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

03-10-06 - Sent I-129F to USCIS

03-15-06 - NOA1

03-25-06 - NOA2 Approval

08-28-06 - Interview!!!

03-17-10 - Petitioner and Agent received emails to further proceed with case

You don't have to get the certificate. His passport will work for any proof that the college or Fasfa needs. I have 4 kids 2 that got their citizenship through me (under 18) and 2 that naturalized themselves. All kids only needed their passports for college 2 have graduated already it's never been an issue.

Thanks, I guess it would be wise to make sure I have it renewed before it expires.

I believe that even an expired passport remains valid proof of citizenship.
