Good afternoon,

Thank you in advance for any feedback. We are currently awaiting the Oath Ceremony for my wife. We have a flight reservation for next weekend however have not received the letter with the date and time for the Oath Ceremony needless to say that the Airline is charging an extra $450 to change the flight further out and we are not wanting to pay that much. Any options for us? As we all know, after the oath then we must apply and wait for the Passport. Thank you in advance!!

Can your wife not travel on the trip as planned using her current foreign passport? How long is the trip?

I am assuming that she can.... I just want to ensure that she can. Again, I researched this and have contracting info... I am assuming that she actually does not become a US Citizen until the after the Oath  therefore she can travel with her Resident Card and Foreign passport... The trip is only for 1 week...

That's correct she does not actually become a US citizen until she takes the oath.

As long as the trip would not cause a continuing residency issue (and I can't see how it would as it's just a week long), I can't see any issues with you going on your vacation as planned. When her oath ceremony is scheduled you'll get more than a week's notice so you shouldn't need to worry about her missing an appointment while you're gone.

Do you have the dates for the upcoming oath ceremonies in your district? If there is none between now and when you come back, there is nothing to worry about. Check district court website, it should be available publicly, if not contact them.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
