Hello everyone, I'm new here so I hope this is in the right forum. I'm in a relationship with a man from Morocco and we are very much in love. I want us to be able to start a life together, whether it be in the United States or in Morocco. However, I would prefer the US. I've been looking into marriage visas and K1 visas and I read something online that said it is possible to be denied sponsorship if you have received welfare benefits?? I almost feel like crying right now. I was on cash assistance for a decent amount of years because of a disability and having a young child without a supporting father. I'm currently making over the 125% poverty level now and I am off welfare, but is it possible that those years of public assistance will come back to haunt me? I feel really depressed about this. Is moving to Morocco my only option at this point? Thanks for any advice!!

As long as you can show that you are not on that now and you are making above the required amount then you will be fine. Usually what that section refers to is if someone is currently on assistance now and trying to bring someone here to get married.

Your past income is irrelevant. Even if you were still receiving disability assistance or made under 125% of the poverty line, Morocco does accept co-sponsors for the K1 visa. Sounds like you won't be needing one however, since you said you currently meet the necessary income qualifications.

Good luck to you as you begin the visa journey!
