QUESTION: Citizenship of child born in US to US citizen father and permanent resident mother

Hello,

 

Just wanted to clarify the citizenship of a child born to a US parent (father, petitioner) and permanent resident mother (mother). I am eligible to apply for citizenship as of August 2017, and we are due with our first child (due date October 9). It is unlikely I'd have citizenship by the time our child is born, so here in lies my question: does the child automatically assume American citizenship given a) being born in the U.S. and b) their father is a U.S. citizen? I presume the answer is yes, but since I am not sure, I was hoping to get insight.

Yes. The US offers Jus Soli citizenship, a citizenship by birth on soil. Even if the parents are non-citizens, a child born on the US soil has a right for citizenship.

Yes to both separately.  A child born to a USC is a USC.  A child born in the USA is a USC.
