Traffic tickets

My husband and I share 1 car. He did delivery for the past couple years and got many tickets (you name it: speeding, red line, parking). Since I added him as a joint owner on the car title, they only mailed the tickets to me. Would it affect my application? I seriously don't know how I can prove I wasn't the one driving the car. I never got any pull over. We paid for the tickets with our credit cards and didn't receive any ticket within the past year. I sent my application already for your information.

Your application (ROC?) will be denied with so much criminal background. Just kidding!!  Traffic offenses by themselves do not even have to be reported and even if they were, they would make zero difference. No affect on your application whatsoever. Relax.

I'm sorry I didn't know how to change it. I'm applying for Naturalization. My ROC was approved in January.

For naturalization you need to show Good Moral Character. In this case, also, traffic tickets don't matter. However, do make sure that all fines are timely paid. Too much of outstanding fines or a habit of ignoring the tickets altogether may have some minor impact on the application (like habitually owing and failing to timely pay otherwise properly filed tax money, etc).

We live in Chicago so those cameras and parking meter are crazy. He got over 20 tickets and paid them as soon as we received them in the mail. So I shouldn't report those tickets? I'm a bit paranoid. We don't get food stamps but my USC spouse has medicaid and I have financial aid for college. I thought good moral character meant if you don't get arrested, and you're good to go. After browsing visajourney, I lost my cool...

No, you don't need to report traffic tickets even if there are more than 20. (DUI is a different matter.) Good Moral Character includes not committing any crimes (misdemeanors or felonies - traffic tickets are infractions and are NOT considered a criminal matter at all), paying or trying to pay taxes, not committing non-criminal "immoral acts" including adultery, gambling (even if legal) or prostitution (even if legal) and more. Having a financial aid for college is improving your career and will be viewed as a positive thing. Medicaid is something that most USC are entitled to at some point and has no bearing or moral character. So everything looks great in your case.

On the application, however, it says have you EVER been cited. Doesn't that mean: "have you ever gotten a ticket"? If so, shouldn't traffic tickets be reported?

I'm not sure about citizenship application but on the I-485 there is the same question and it specifically says that traffic violations should not be reported (only non-traffic violations). Check your form again and see if it's similar to that. In worst case scenario you'll report the tickets and attach the copies of the receipts. In no circumstances will the tickets affect your naturalization.  "Citation" can mean anything.

non moving violations like parking tickets are sent to the owners of the car. since there is no way to prove who did it it does not go against anyones record. if no one pays them that is a different story.

my understanding is that these are not your violations, just mailed to your because you are the registered owner of the car. if your husband is the violator, it has no effect on your application. 

 

also traffic tickets dont do anything in immigration because they are civil infractions, not criminal.

This has actually been a point of concern in several posts. There seems to be some confusion about whether you need to: A) Report the infractions and/or B: submit paperwork showing the resolution of the infractions. Sorry, I don't have any answer for you, but please do search for other posts regarding traffic violations. Good luck!

since the question asks if you have been 'cited' the answer to A is report. and no paperwork is required for infractions less than 50 that did not involve substance abuse.

 

that being said, it seems that the OP was not the violator. the violator's name is written on the tickets and only moving infractions count. parking tickets dont. so if there are no moving infractions on the applicants name, nothing is to be reported in the application.
