Hey Guys,

I am taking a look at the AOS paperwork to make sure I understand it before I start seriously filling it out.

I have a question about form I-485 Part 3© which reads: "List your present and past membership in or affiliation with every organization, association, fund, foundation, party, club, society or similar group in the United States or in other places since your 16th birthday..."

What things have you put down for this? I have volunteered for charitable organizations, etc, but I don't know if that's the kind of thing they're looking for. Can you provide your experience with this? Thanks!

Basically that is what they are looking for. For example, a person comes to the USA on a K-1, or K-3 visa from China, they were a member of the Party, it can slip by the consulate because there were no questions asking about it specifically during the process of the visa, (DS-230 part 2 is not used on K-Visa) so the I-485 is where it is asked.

Remember truthful answers are always the best.

They don't just want memberships of political organizations, but also professional ones such as the IEEE, AAAS, AAS etc.

What about being a member of online Community like VISAJOURNEY? Will that count too? Should I put yes or no on the Form?

What about SAMS Club, COSTCO?

I'd like to qualify my response by saying that I'm yet to submit an application, however under the general guidelines for submission for Form I-485 (page 11) under the heading Penalties, it states "If you knowingly and willingly falsify or conceal a material fact...you will face severe penalties provided by law and may be subject to criminal prosecution". Given that the purpose of the I-485 is to establish a candidate for migration, I'd include any and all clubs that provide the department with material information as to your moral character. I would omit immaterial organisations (such as the local swimming club or debating society). However I would include University and Political ties as these facilitate the USCIS to pass a better informed decision as to your character.

I found further guidance in this: http://www.uscis.gov/ilink/docView/AFM/HTML/AFM/0-0-0-1/0-0-0-23223/0-0-0-23319/0-0-0-25529.html
