I agree there are better ways than the 30% penalty, I think making it too expensive for one to opt out in the first place would be better because it would keep the cash flow coming and it would be much less paperwork in the long run.

The ACA is far from perfect, but it in my opinion it was a step in the right direction. I don't know why the Feds don't take a closer look at the health plan (Romney care) that we have in Mass. Premiums aren't ridiculous and most everyone is covered. My wife and I both pay around $52 per week for single coverage plans at our places of employment and our employer picks up the rest. It's about $200 cheaper for us per month doing it that way over a family plan. We both have $2,000 deductables on procedures and $1,000 on prescriptions. Most procedures are at least partly covered, but once you hit the 2K mark, it's all covered. We are also allowed one free physical per year and a free eye exam every two years.

Honestly, it's not even just Romneycare there are so many programs all over the world to look at and examine, take the positives and apply them here. The US would be "fortunate" to be the last in the developed world to implement something like that so examples abound. I don't know how much you guys make so it would depend. If you're making over $100,000 a year then that's reasonable, otherwise I still think it's way too expensive.

I watched an episode of 20/20 years ago when John Stossel was still on the show and he touted Singapore's healthcare system as one of the most efficient in the world and that it would be easy for the US to implicate such a plan.

This is a pretty good break down of the Singapore system. Again, it's not perfect but it's better than what we have now.

Healthcare in Singapore is mainly under the responsibility of the Singapore Government's Ministry of Health. Singapore generally has an efficient and widespread system of healthcare. Singapore was ranked 6th in the World Health Organisation's ranking of the world's health systems in the year 2000.[1] Bloomberg ranked Singapore’s healthcare system the 1st most efficient in the world in 2014.[2]

Kinda resembles the one in Israel but with a few differences.

Health care in Israel is universal and participation in a medical insurance plan is compulsory. All Israeli citizens are entitled to basic health care as a fundamental right. The Israeli healthcare system is based on the National Health Insurance Law of 1995, which mandates all citizens resident in the country to join one of four official health insurance organizations which are run as not-for-profit organizations, and are prohibited by law from denying any Israeli citizen membership. Israelis can increase their medical coverage and improve their options by purchasing private health insurance.[1] In a survey of 48 countries in 2013, Israel's health system was ranked fourth in the world in terms of efficiency, and in 2014 it ranked seventh out of 51.[2] In 2015, Israel was ranked sixth-healthiest country in the world by Bloomberg rankings[3] and ranked eighth in terms of life expectancy.

But again I don't think the compulsory part of it is as good as it sounds on paper.

You left out the part where it says other countries with universal care have better wait times and lower costs and/or private sector alternatives. You also completely made up the part about this list being average wait times for Canada, it clearly says average wait times for Ontario. The next time you post about fake news, I'll have to take your skills at discerning said news into consideration.

The point is Socialism does not work.  How is that fake news?  I could post several photos of the wonderful medical facilities in Venezuela if you like.  But to someone living in Ontario with a brain tumor, I think almost a year is a long wait for treatment, but hey, if you are OK with that fine.  I tend to think it is unacceptable.  Yes, Canada tends to be the worst performing socialist medicine country (of the developed world), but if you have a major condition such as cancer, or an orthopedic issue, prepare to wait.  And so far as I know, Canada does not have a private partnership to speed things up like a few other socialist countries have after seeing full socialist medicine does not work.

Here is Canada as a whole and it appears that Ontario is actually the best performing province.

I wasn't aware of what healthcare system Israel had, nor did I know they were ranked so high. I like the way that system sounds, especially the fact that healthcare is a fundamental right. I don't understand why it is not a fundamental right in the US.

Speaking from the experience of my wife and her family on Canadian healthcare, if your illness is severe such as cancer or a brain tumor you won't be waiting. They prioritize the most critical cases.

The flipside of that is you can walk into your Dr's office at anytime for any minor illness and be treated for no charge.

How do they prevent the socialists from abusing the system by asking for health care willy nilly?

How would they know if it was a socialist abusing the system?

To my knowledge they don't have any plan in place that prevents people from abusing the system. But what do you consider abuse?
