So as far as how you would like to raise your kids, you may just have to compromise and in some ways raise them the way he would like also.

Its all about respect and understanding of one anothers culture in the end. (L)

 I know one of the "issues" my friend had when they had their baby was that he wanted to pierce her ears immediately after baby was born and she was totally against the idea. I guess it's very typical for little babies to get ears pierced in JA right away. Well, it was a big argument and they didn't do it. Now the baby is over 2 yrs. old and she wishes she would have gotten them done when she was a baby! Now she's at the age where she'll play with them or pull them out etc..

What do you ladies think? Since I'm having a girl, I'm sure this is going to come up soon in my house!

I don't know why there's a rush, yes it looks very cute...but, having to clean them everyday, make sure she doesn't pull them out, get stuck in something, lose them, swallow them, etc etc. I personally would wait until she was old enough to be able to take care of them herself. I wasn't "allowed" to get my ears pierced until I was in the 8th grade....my 1st pair.

With the circumcision.....since I was on assistance then and didn't get "approved" when my son was born, he was 18 days old !! It was crazy, he made no noise until they moved him from the warm table to the cold table.

Hmmm, well I'm totally fine with piercing my daughters ears when she is a baby but as far as the boys and circumcision thing.....I don't think I'll do that. I mean is there a medical necessity for it? What is the point? And actually as the boy gets older and becomes a "man", isn't it better for him to be uncircumcised? There's less chaffing that way as I understand.....but heck I'm no man so I really don't know. I just don't know what the point of circumcision is. I guess when I have kids I'll understand it more.

They say it's better to circumcise the boys b/c when they have foresking it's hard to clean which can sometimes be terrible for the female cause if u don't clean right he can put everything dirty in her. They don't self clean :)

I have read that there is a greater risk of getting STI's for uncircumcised men.

Nb: It isn't difficult to clean...

My fiance told me that the gay men are coming out more and more in Jamaica. He said they are not afraid anymore...and often are the "rude" boys and are armed. He told me that there are more men dressing as women too, and that one place I love to party now has a night dedicated to gay night. :o:dead::protest:

I know what you mean. After leaving an abusive Ja man after being married for 13 years, I swore off JA men and marriage till I met Mike. I want nothing more than to have him here with me so we can get married and start our lives together.:dance:

I met Corey when i went to Jamaica with a friend who was adopting a child from there. My friend use to date his brother. Corey came to visit her and when I came out of the house it was love at first sight. I could not stop giggling and smiling at him. He kept looking at me and smiling. My friend was like ok are ya'll going to do that all day or are you going to say hello.

After that we were inseparable. I was only there for a week. I spent alot of time with him. When I returned to the United States we started talking on the phone everyday talking to each other. I went back to jamaica a month later. While I was there Corey asked me to marry him. I said yes. I met his family and they treated me like i belonged. When I came back to the US i was sick because i missed him so much. Don't get me wrong we still talk everyday sometimes 4 times a day.

It is funny because the day Corey asked me to marry him, he told me that he needed to go to the store and that he would be right back. He came back two hours later. I was so mad i yelled at him and walked into the bathroom. When I came out of the bathroom he was on one knee with a ring in his hand. I felt so bad. He said it took him so long because he was trying to find the perfect ring for me. sigh!!!!

WHEW!!!!!

Just finished catching up on AAALLLLLL the posts that I missed while I was away. You ladies are a great bunch.:yes::lol: You all have me cracking up when you are all fighting over Beenie Man and the likes. LOL. As I stated earlier I met him at the airport and he was nice enough to give me an autograph for my daughter and allowed me to take a picture with him. I wanted a still picture but die to my inexperience with celebs my camera was on video. He was scruffy-looking but alright. I only did this because I knew my daughter adores him and when I texted her to tell her she was ga-ga over it. I feel like Jomo's girl--do anything for your children.

Anyway about how I met my SO. I was introduced on a whim to him by my brother's ex-wife after not being in a serious committed relationship for quite some time. :innocent::innocent: I had recently moved from NYC to NC and was just chilling. She was seeing a friend of Mike's and just hooked us up. We started by talking on the phone and I was so impressed with the conversation and the person I talked to, that I had to meet him in person. He is well educated and intelligent and is an old soldier and old cop. Very disciplined guy. We are both the same age, (43) he is two months older than I am and we have the same goals and aspirations.

I decided to go meet him after not being back to JA after 15 years and it was love at first sight, even though the initial connection was made on the phone. After gettihng back to the States, I wanted him to be with me so much that I decided that I was gonna do the fiance visa and during my internet research I found this wonderful site and a bunch of great friends that have provided my with a wealth of information.

During my research and conversations with Mike, I found out that his dad had filed the I-130 for him back in 2000. Thus my research tokk another road and his priority date became current in July and the paper trail started. Was I not lucky? Anyway I will always be here with you ladies enjoyning the banter and getting my daily laugh on. :jest::jest:

Mike was a little reluctant to migrate and wanted to slow things down, but after this visit and we actually got to spend a lot of time getting to know each other more and actually living together and doing things together and for each other, he has changed his mind and has become very enthused about coming her to be with me. :dancing::dancing: Before I went down I told of the process and the documents that were required and he was like yeah, yeah. Now he has started gathering documents and he has even gone to the health department of get his immunization record.

I am very happy and am looking forward to a great and wonderful future with him :thumbs::thumbs:

Claire, I can't wait to get the good news that Mike is on his way (L)

wow after catching up for the past couple of hours, i must start off by commenting on the youtube video. i was in shock to actually see that because i never really saw open gayness like that in mobay. on a few occasions walking through town my gaydar would go off but this is a first for me. my hubby was like nuff of them got in trouble for that and he used to got to school with one of them and beat him up all the time :o i think that there has always been a small underlying acceptance of homosexualty in jamaica, you can't be outright with it of course but they're family/communtiy members (like zeeks) and as long as they don't wear it on their sleeve, is like they can be around.

did one of you slip some of that vj water in my drink? apparently i too am pregnant, i guess we were trying but right now i'm in a state of shock that my life as i know it will never be the same. too soon but thinking ahead and assuming all goes well any advice on where to look for economical jamaican nannies in los angeles (i sense it will be like looking for a needle in a hay stack)

sonshyne thanks for the aos interview details, quincy is on my insurance but i guess i should put him on my bank acct, since he's not working i figured why do that, but i will now. as for the name change i don't want to change my name. i'm the last person in my family with my sir name so when i die so does the family name, do you think that's an accepatable reason to give them?

here's my story quincy is 21 and mature in some ways and immature in others but who am i to talk? he's from mobay, he knows your fiance by the way classychic77 (friend of a friend) and that's where i met him at a local rooftop party my cousin and i decided to go to on boxing day 2004 to relieve much needed stress from work and relationships. we acted a fool and had a ball knowing that nobody we knew would see us. in comes this guy with a huge afro like mine. we were the only two in there looking like that so he caught my attention from the moment he walked in. anyway after catching a break from all the guys trying to talk to us, he asked me to dance while i waited for my cousin to finish her drunken piss in the bathroom. without even looking at him i immediately said no and he was like alright then, which took me by surprise because i'm so used to them not taking no for an answer. at which point i did look at him and noticed that he was cute so i tried to redeem myself by complementing his higrade and asking him to share which he did but he wouldn't roll it so i was like damn he's kinda mean, which was intriguing to me for some reason. we ended up dancing anyway and exchanging numbers, i had it in my mind that it was just be a holiday fling and i would never speak to him after but i couldn't resist calling him upon my return to the us and started looking forward to seeing him when i would go to visit my parents. so we agreed to do the damn thing dec 2005 no romatic stories of engagement and now he's here. i consider myself lucky because thus far he has put to rest every fear i had about being in a relationship with a young jamaican man (money, cheating, age difference) and to think if that night his friend hadn't decided that he wanted to try to talk to my "brownin" cousin instead of me we would not be here today, i always poke fun at him about that.

My fiance told me that the gay men are coming out more and more in Jamaica. He said they are not afraid anymore...and often are the "rude" boys and are armed. He told me that there are more men dressing as women too, and that one place I love to party now has a night dedicated to gay night. :o:dead::protest:

Git deh 'ell outta here! Good for dem! Personally, I have no problem with homosexual relationships. It's the one social issue that Ken and myself disagree about! Look, I definately think it's nature. You can't help being Gay, just like I can't help being a woman...it just is! I much prefer that they come out and state their preference rather than do it on the DL. On the DL, is no good for anyone...especially not us women!

It's funny the other day students at the University I work for asked me to be the advisor for the Gay, Straight Student Alliance...I turned them down, not because I didn't want to do it or believe in their exsistence, but cause I couldn't see Ken attending their functions and activities with me...I would feel like a big fraud. Plus, I am already the advisor for Jamaican Student Organization...so being an advisor for those 2 clubs would be like working with Ying and Yang!:lol:(L)-Gill

He said it took him so long because he was trying to find the perfect ring for me. sigh!!!!

VERY SWEET STORY NICKY!!!!!

Bless bless,

Gill
