Hi.

is it okay for my mom to ask for one yr extension for the passport?

My mom's passport( philippine passport)  was expired oct 2015. she's planning to go home march 2017. she went to renew her passport yesterday but she forgot to bring her birth cert. it turns out that she can't find her birth cert so she needs to get a new one from nso ( she'll have my aunt get a new one). it'll take 3 days for the new birth cert to get here from p.i. and it will be too late for her to renew for a new passport since the lady said it will take 2 mos from the application date  for the new passport to be deliverd and my mom is planning to go home first week of march.  so is it okay if we ask for a year extension?

I don't know about an extension, but you can usually pay for expedited processing of the passport and receive it much sooner. So, if the extension request doesn't work out, you can always go that route!

yeah Philippines does not expedite the passport anymore. But it's crazy how renewing a passport here in USA takes so long while in the Pinas and in the ME it does not take that long at all.
