hi

used trans-global express, an extra suitcase , hold luggage to maximum.

I was coming with 11 year old daughter so had toys, teddies books, school stuff pictures.

the extra suitcase cost me 20, plus 45 at airport for excess bag( 23kg) plus two allowed cases (46 kg)

Hold luggage used the 10 kg allowance for us both. (20kg)

Then Trans global i used 4 boxes (95Kg) cost me roughly 110 pounds for courier.

The boxes arrived all unopened undamaged( class in them as well) within the week of me arriving. They were pickup up day before we flew out. ( hint make sure you dont list anything as new all bought over a year ago- no taxes to customs- no long forms)

I used boxes roughly 55x37x39 and played about with weights in the boxes

Who is that through? Would make things much easier than taking everything on the plane! We plan to arrive and spend a couple of days in Seattle, but home is in Oregon. Though we will be visiting Seattle often so if it arrives later we could pick the stuff up then

Thus is the quote to Seattle. So you would need to pick it up there or pay extra to have it brought down to Oregon.

Here is the website I used

I don't know anything about the company but have been in email contact with one of their employees and all seems well so far.

My wife is going to be using http://www.baggagehub.com/

So far they have been very helpful. They had someone come to our house and deliver the boxes, and explain to her how it works. She has everything packed up and is going to have it shipped soon. I think you can choose air freight or sea freight and they can explain the difference in price (In general - air is by actual weight, sea is by volume). I don't know if it's the cheapest service out there, we aren't all that bothered since my new job gives me a moving allowance and I've only used half of it. However she has like 6 or 8 large boxes (40kg each, lots of kitchen stuff) and I don't think it's going to be more than 800 pounds for air freight (will get here in like 3-4 days). Someone else here recommended it to me in a thread I made in the "moving to america" section. We'll be able to tell you how our personal experience was in a few weeks.

I'm a fellow Oregonian :) (Portland born, raised and attended University though I'm now in Houston).

Did your fiancé decide which company he will use?

I agree with you... it is impossible for myself and my daughter to fit all our belongings into two suitcases.

I will be sending either 6 or 7 boxes via sea freight. I am guess sea freight is more cheaper than Air freight.

It depends on what the items are I think, and how much you have. Sea Freight is generally charged by the space you take up, since the weight isn't all that important. Air Freight is by weight (also by space, but mostly weight). So if you have lots of light things to put in boxes Air Freight won't be that bad.

My boxes are quite heavy, sea freight may be best for me.

Do you know roughly how long sea freight will take from London, UK to East Coast of the USA? I want to know when I should book the collection because I want arrive in the USA before my boxes do.

It was a couple of weeks ago when my wife got a quote, but I believe sea freight was going to be like 3-4 weeks if there are no delays and it leaves as expected.

We are moving our whole house (both living in Europe last 12 years and have 3 year old child), minus some furniture and all electronics, to California. I filled in a short form on a comparison website and got about 8 quotes via email (many also called) from different companies (I think it was this one?https://www.deliveryquotecompare.com/removals/international-removals/). They estimate your volume of goods to give you a quote. We live in a 65 m2 two bedroom flat, and they estimated 150-200 cubic ft move. It is by sea, and can take up to 9 weeks - we don't mind and will take essentials with us by air.  We are paying ourselves so trying to negotiate down but most estimates were in the range of £1000. Part-load shipping is the cheapest: they put your stuff into a shipping container along with other shipments so it is much cheaper.

We used Sterling Removals before and were pretty happy with the service throughout.

Hope that helps!
