Hi Pedroh

As you know, I live in the Triangle and often when I pass Smithfiled exit on I 40 on my way to Wilmington, I wondered about what goes on in the slaughter houses. I also recall horror stories about the place on NPR. Since then, I've been curious about the place. I have included the links to some related stories and would like to know how accurate they are . Would appreciate hearing from you your own impression of the place.

Cheers

LOL

I haven't seen any of that.. my boss is Indian and she PWNS.. in the cafeteria you see blacks and latinos jokin around, eating and smoking.. true, the work is hard, really hard, I do sh!t compared to what they do (I just take samples of meat and test it), they cut bones at amazing speeds, and no, they don't fire people for being slow, it's noisy, bloody, and cold, but I really haven't feel the hostile environment I've read in several reports and whatnot..

about the "JUSTICE" Thing, well, that's about the Union, I try not to get involved in that, I know NC is not very welcoming of Unions.. so I keep myself away from that..

the rotation is really high.. latinos are the ones who stay, Americans (all of them, black whites or indians) are the ones with a high rotation.. I guess they have more chances somewhere else, cuz yea, they job is hard..

Congratulations on the job.

Is their head office located in Smithfield, VA?

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Congrats on the new endeavour...I hope it works out for you.

The RedWings that were suggested earlier are great steeltoed safety shoes, but they cost mucho dinero. I have had good luck with Wolverine and they are not as pricey. As for me...I prefer steeltoed shoes rather than hightop laceup boots. The bottom line is that steeltoed footwear sux and I don't wear them unless it is mandatory.

Good luck. ;)

Hi Pedroh,

Thanks for your rejoinder. Godd luck with your job!

However, knowing that your wife teaches in Smithfield you could shoot for a teaching job also. I recall from your previous posts that you've had schooling in Europe etc. if you have a bachelor's then you could shoot for a teaching job as a lateral entry. NC runs a shortage of teachers to the tune of 6000 a year so the State pays for folks without teaching license to get one through taking courses. It is known as Model T in short. You can do many required courses online. I work for an area university so if you are interested, shoot me an email. With your bilingual proficiency, you have high potential.

Again, best of luck.

lol she doesn't teach in Smithfield.. actually the Smithfield's plant is located in Tar Heel NC.. rural town next to Lumberton..she teaches in Fairmont High, Fairmont NC.. yeah I've had a couple of people telling me to go teach as lateral entry, specially for ESL classes, I might, but I want to give it a shot here.. besides, I'm not planning to make a career there.. but i need the experience to move to better jobs.. i've found jobs all around Texas where they need supervisors with 'bilingual required' (not bilingual a plus as in NC), and they get T3H B1G BUX for those jobs, but they ask for 2-3 years of experience in manufacturing or food plants, that I dont have.. so this is a start only, to get into the field

Lyrics by Jello Biafra

Down in Hamlet, North Carolina

They had a chicken plant sure did explode

Them tar heels trapped like burnin' rats

Cuz the boss man chained the door closed

My mama was born in

A town called Hamlet

Sleepy little place on the Seaboard line

My papa worked on the railroad

And my granny went out her mind

One day the railroad

It went busted

Like Richmond County ain't broke enough

So this Yankee carpetbagger

Figured to make a little money on Hamlet's bad luck

Buildt a brand new chicken fixin' plant

And they paid that minimum wage

But the boss man said no unions

Or he'd move his plant far away

Merele Etta Johnson

She was late for work

Heard a thunderin' roar out on the highway

Musta been NASCAR over at Rockingham

Or just Merle Etta's judgment day

8:15 in the mornin'

Chicken plant burst into flames

People trampled, squashed and burned up

Just to keep the profit margin

One iota higher

everybody gotta work in this world

Some folks lucky-some folks ain't

But that ####### that chained the doors shut

I'm gonna rip him through p!!!!!!

When I was a little boy

With a buzzsaw hair cut

Go down to Hamlet, watch the trains

Now the tourists stop on the ighway

Get a little look at the chicken plant workers' remains

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

That's great! best of Luck.

As for me, I'm contemplating career change. This is what I want to do when I grow up.

My new career goal.

Man reads between naked buttocks to predict future

2007/02/16

Naked buttocks can predict future, claims a blind German psychic. He says he can read people's futures by feeling their naked buttocks.

Man reads between naked buttocksClairvoyant Ulf Buck, 39, claims that people's buttocks have lines like those on the palm of the hand, which can be read to reveal much about their character and destiny.

"The bottom is much more intense -- it has a much stronger power of expression than the hand in my experience," Buck told Reuters. "It goes on developing throughout your life."

By running his fingers along a number of lines on the surface of a client's naked buttocks, he says he can tell them about their future monetary success, family life, health and happiness.

He says lines representing success, career and artistic ability extend inwards from the outer extremities of the buttocks, while a further five lines radiate outwards.

Buck, who lives in the northern village of Meldorf, northwest of Hamburg, says all types come to him to have their bottoms read.

He sees his blindness as a great asset, not least because it means customers do not risk having their identities revealed, Reuters reports.

"All sorts come, from cleaning ladies and secretaries to prominent members of the community. For them, my being blind is an advantage because I can do it without recognizing them again in the future." Buck has been blind since the age of three.

"An apple-shaped, muscular bottom indicates someone who is charismatic, dynamic, very confident and often creative. A person who enjoys life," he said. "A pear-shaped bottom suggests someone very steadfast, patient and down-to-earth."

He is quick to shoot down any suggestion that his buttock groping might be motivated by anything other than a genuine desire to probe people's futures.
