No for me just saying they had him at the first arrest and didnt address the status, he could have been stopped at that point.

Absolutely. That's where the failure is.

But the report is a bit how like if you want to make a headline, just tack 'Muslim' onto the front of a story.

i doubt many true muslims have dwi convictions

I'm with Robert007; his illegal status didn't make anyone any more dead than they would have if he'd been a citizen or a B-2 holder. The problem here's the drinking.

...drinking and driving.

Have a designated driver, take a cab, stay home and drink.

Sure...it's really great if people do the right thing. The problem is that some people don't and never will.

You pretty much know where I stand. So what is your solution? You don't think this guy should be deported back to Mexico with a lifetime ban after serving time in jail as prescribed by current law? Or do you think this guy needs amnesty, a Green Card, and a pathway to citizenship so that we have to endure his criminal behavior forever? I just don't see what you are trying to say here. Lay it out plain and simple. Don't dance around the rose bushes.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

There is a commonality in the Denver issue.

Both cases arise from the Government s failure to enforce its own laws.

The technical term is Proximate Cause, in this case the Authorities had fair warning and the opportunity to do something about it, they failed, people died. The only variable was who would die.

In the Iraqi case there are also laws on the books, they require any Country that refuses to take its Citizens back to not be given any visa's for future applicants. Simple really, there was an interview with Rice asking why this was not followed though, she blanked it.

A local Denver Station did a piece about uninsured/no DL/No plate/False ID etc Drivers pulled over by the Police. They followed them going to court, paying a nominal fine, walking out....

and getting back into the car.

Outside the Court House.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Well said.

Someone died not JUST because an illegal drank. Someone died because the illegal was allowed to stay illegally instead of the government doing its job to enforce our laws. That's why the DUI is a SECONDARY issue to the PRIMARY issue of how the offenders should not even be here in the first place to do DUIs and kill people.

What is so difficult about that to understand?

This guy? Deported and banned for life - at the least. With multiple DUI's and after killing people you can set him on fire for all I care.

As far as the non-troublemaking illegal aliens, I honestly don't know. To grant them amnesty would be rewarding them. To deport them would be difficult and could cause more problems than we have now. I don't have a solution but I work in the IT field so that's not a big surprise. I do however pay taxes to employ government officials who are paid to solve these problems. IMO the illegal alien problem in this country is akin to the war in the middle east - no easy good solution.
