Hi

Thank God we arrived safely in the USA . I would appreciate your advice :idea::idea:

1. I (UKC) and my son (UKC) finally arrived in the USA to join my husband on our IR1 & IR2 . I need to find a school for my son who i will be 9 in two weeks. I understand that it takes a while for the socal security number to come through. Can I still apply a to school for my son.

The second thing is i was told by the border officer that it could take up to six months for the Green Card to come to my new home address. Is this the case ? Also he stamped in my passport 12mths for the visa to expire or is 12 mths for the temporary visa to expire before until the Green card finally comes.

thirdly i paid the immigration fee about two months before i left the UK and had requested for the social security card to be sent to my address in the USA, how long does this take? or should i go with my husband to the social security office and apply for my son and I.

You will need to call the schools in your area. He will probably be put in the school that governs your district if you want public school, and you don't need to apply, just enroll. They probably do not require a SSN. School has already started so I'd get cracking.

It can take a while but sometimes the GC also comes fast. You have proof of a GC for a year.

SS card should take a couple of weeks, but if you don't get one, just go down to the office and request one. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Schools can not require a SSN.
