Green card extension letter expires in December this year. Who knows what happens in my case... But having that stamp in the passport is fine right now, I’m worried when I need to apply for a new job next year if they will accept that as my authorization for work. My passport is in maiden name, which only makes it little more difficult. Sure I can show them marriage license but I’m curios how well versed people in HR are with temporary I-551. The stamp does say “work authorization “.

as long as you show them your unexpired state id and a restriction free social security card, the employer can't reject you. It's legally prohibited. Also the stamp serves the same purpose as a green card for the extra year of waiting period.

I work at an airport and its a little different where you must show them the greencard, but that's because it's and international airport and they have different regulations.

But other than that you shouldn't have problems with employments.

I'm still waiting for any news from uscis too and it is pretty frustrating. Although i don't feel that lonely knowing we are all in the same situation :)

Well that is not some wrong info.

If your country permits dual citizenship then obviously this wouldn’t apply to you. But for those whose country of origin does not permit it, by virtue of acquiring foreign citizenship they lose every rights they would otherwise have had as citizens. That means they could be excluded from things like petitioning for a name change if there was a citizenship requirement depending on the laws of the country. So again no wrong info was given, your just lucky to come from a place that permits dual nationality cos believe me if you were not this woulda been a different story altogether.

I know, that is why you shouldn't assume that I come from country that doesn't allow dual citizenship. It was just wrong of you to tell me that I will have trouble getting my name changed, after I said on this forum that I already researched the whole process.

Thank you for info. They took away my green card, so are you saying I can't travel abroad now? I thought we are allowed to travel with the GC extension... I do not plan to travel but I would like to be informed.

You can travel with the passport stamp.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

Right! We can make infopass easily. I just love how close to the parking lot the office is. I travel 1.5 hours to Cle office and it helps.

btw I just peaked in June 2016 board and lots of people are waiting or in the process of RFE. They are 3 months ahead of us and still in the process.

Okay I’m not sure if you actually read my original post and understood it in its entirety. I DID NOT in any form or fashion imply that u come from a country that doesn’t permit dual citizenship so again you are actually the one making assumptions here. Therefore I encourage u to go back to page 94 and read my initial response cos u clearly didn’t comprehend it at all.

I went to get the stamp in my passport couple days ago and the agent said that its taking about 14 or 16 months the most for our applications. So she said we should be getting some news pretty soon.

Exactly! Seeing those boards I don't expect anything earlier than January, as I don't want to be disappointed. Hopefully we all know by February that the card is in the making.

I think you were confused, that is why the misunderstanding. Those are two separate things:

1) rights of the citizen such as voting

2) updating the data in the system, such as name change

You do NOT need to be a citizen to change name in the particular country. Changing the name is not an exclusive "right" to citizens, it is actually a legal requirement to update the name change with the government.
