Hi,

I have a question about the sponsor. The petitioner, who is my wife, is a student so she didn't work last year. The past 3 years she was working and did her taxes. My question is, will she need to attach (with the i-864) the tax forms plus the w2 and 1099 or just the taxes?

Thanks

It can be done two ways:

  • Tax forms plus W2's, schedules, 1099's
  • Tax transcript, obtainable from the IRS

Hey there!

Using the same topic because it is related with the taxes. My co-sponsor is filling joint taxes does he need to provide me his W2, 1040 and 1099s?
Or does he need to also send me his wifes w2, 1040 and 1099s?
Also he owns a house does he need to fill out any other paper and send it to me?
This is all very confusing for me.

To get the semantics out of the way first, joint sponsor is the proper term when referring to an I-864, not co-sponsor.

As for your question, keep it simple and have your joint sponsor submit tax transcripts.

carlos7 I would suggest that your co-sponsor provide you with all copies of both his and his wife's W2's and 1099's along with their 1040's.  That way you would avoid the possibility of an RFE requesting the additional documents since your co-sponsor's are filing a joint return.  Likewise they will need to complete and sign USCIS form I-184a's.

Hey, thanks for the replies! Currently I do not have the option to do the tax transcripts because my visa will expire before I receive the transcripts. For this reason, since my joint sponsor and his wife (who will not be sponsoring me at all) filed joint taxes this year I want to be 100% sure that I do not need the tax information and paperwork (w2, 1040 and 1099s) of my joint sponsor`s wife. Thanks!
