i got my NOA1 by text on August 4. Today I checked my case status in it said::

"My document was sent back to USCIS.

On August 15 ,2016, the post office returned your document to us. we will hold your document for 180 days or until February 11, 2017. Please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request that we resend the document to you. If you do not submit a request by February 11,2017 we will destroy your document and you will need to file a new form I-129F with fee. "

First of all, any ideas on what document they could've been sending? Would it be my written NOA1?

Second of all, I tried going to the link but I'm supposed to know which document they need to resend me and I don't :/ is there a number I can call?

I'm thinking this is because my last name changed a month or two ago and I forgot to notify my post office :/

I went to the post office and they said that my last name changing wouldn't have mattered :/

I called USCIS and they put in a service request for me and said I should get something within 30 days :/

Did your status say the same thing as mine?

Yes I got the same message saying that it was sent back to USCIS by the us postal service on the 8th, and i got the same 180 days, etc. Gave me a heart attack of course haha.

I also went to the local office to verify that it is the same mailing address, which it was.

Do you live in an apartment complex? I do, and I'm not sure if whether or not that was the reason it was sent back. I think i read somewhere that for Gov't documents, you need to have your name on the mailbox, but I'm not 100% sure.

They also put in a service request for me and said 15-30 days I should expect it.

I also talked with another individual who is going through the same problem. She said it shouldn't delay the process, assuming it was an NOA1 and not an RFE.

They told me they were unable to determine what kind of document it was, but they think it was NOA1. I'm sure it was the same for you.

Regards,

Ryan

It's definitely not an RFE, that's way too early. You still have about 2-3 months left until RFE or NOA2.

Most likely it's the NOA1, yes. NOA1 hardcopy isn't important so it's not the end of the world if you don't get it.
But NOA2 is very important, you also need it later for when you AOS. An RFE hardcopy is very important too. So make sure they have the right address to you so you don't end up having the same issue with NOA2/RFE.

Yeah I'm sure it's just the NOA1. I'm not worried about actually getting it in the mail because I already received the email and text. I just want to make sure they have the correct address and the issue is fixed. When I went to the link they gave me to request they resend it, it wouldn't even let me submit the request :/ Said I have to wait til 30 days after my application was received. I'm just hoping it doesn't set us back :/
