HELP!! Adjustment of Status BUT my step kids live in different state

Guys there's no custody issues, the kids biological is willing to do a consent or whatever else is necessary. I pose the same question to a lawyer with 17 yrs as a prosecutor for the justice department and this is what she said

Thank you for contacting us. You can file for your step-children if you can provide extensive documentary proof that you do in fact have a stepparent relationship with them.

You can file, is not the same as you will be successful. It is helpful that the mother will cooperate, but a prosecutor for the justice department is not the same as a qualified immigration attorney with family immigration experience.

Although this is a do-it-yourself site, it can be irresponsible and arguably reckless to tell members that they don't need advice from a qualified attorney. We can't possibly know all the relevant details of a poster's case, and attorneys can be aware of aspects of the law, or wrinkles in it, that we aren't.
