If you're travelling or working, I'd go back, try again, and hope for someone else working the counter. The should have given you the I551 stamp but your status doesn't expire. You just don't have proof of work eligibility/travel.

In my case, they did take the GC and extend for only 6 months - I think it was because he was annoyed through no fault of our own. While he was still with the other group, who asked wayyyyy too many questions and wanted advice, he pushed the 'next' button so we were called to his counter. We waited the 5+ minutes until he was finished with them, but by then they had already moved on to other numbers at other counters so we were super awkwardly like "hey......you called our number?"

We aren't going to travel until we get the new GC approval. We are working, so that makes us nervous. I suppose every field office is different. I saw recently on this thread someone went to get their passport stamped and the agent declined to stamp because they follow the GC date not the NOA date. So they were told to go back within 30 days of the GC expiration date. Sounds like you didn't have the best experience in the field office either.

Some officers are nice, and some are just being difficult. Of all the officers and adjudicators I have come in contact with, most of them are ok. I think you will be ok. For CSC filers, our uncertainty remains which is why we will apply 400 early next week. I think it might be a new norm for CSC filers having to apply 400 so they can get the ball rolling, it may prompt USCIS to combine the two and adjudicate.

I'm finding this time around the regular Customer Service reps are nicer than the Tier 2 Officers. I called when we got home and the Tier 2 officer told us to go based off of what the field office told us compared to what the phone Customer Service reps told us. He also suggested to go to the website and email VSC and ask for an update and they would get back within 1-15 days. In the event they don't respond to call back and ask for a Tier 2 Officer again. I asked him if he could see in the system if our case was assigned and he said they don't have access to that information (which isn't true). He was just pushing us off just like the other guy this morning... You guys are smart to file for the 400 to get the ball rolling cause I have seen you guys experiencing major delays compared to VSC.

Exactly. The officers I have talked to so far are just friendly enough. I have talked to a tier 2 officer and he told me to get my 551 stamped and he told me to wait for a year and a few more days to do an inquiry. Basically, it is a waste of time to talk to these people. Yes, CSC is unprecedentedly experiencing an extreme delay that we have never seen before, so the smart move should be just apply for 400 while one can. My ultimate goal is the citizenship, if i just keep focusing on that, i will feel less frustrated.

I've always been able to use the US Citizen's line, especially if travelling with my husband as we only fill out one customs form (at their request).

So they told you someone has been assigned to adjudicate your application? You are an August filer like me, guess that is good news? It will be interesting to see what the next processing times update is. Fingers crossed

Yeah, it just goes to tell you it depends on the officer. I was lucky because the officer who handled my appointment couldn't be nicer, I explained to him that i was told by USCIS on three occasions on the phone to go by the NOA expiration date. The officer told me if i plan on traveling any time soon, i said no, but i told him my father has cancer and i might have to go back if there's a family emergency, the officer told me he would get me a stamp and he just needed to do some background check and i got the 551 stamp after 25 minutes. They didn't get my conditional green card either. I don't think it is a big deal, some officers just have different opinion on whether to go by NOA or CG's expiration date, I guess you just have to wait until 30 days before you CH expires in November.

Yeah, i have a feeling 50 percent of the officers think you should go by NOA, and 50 should go by the conditional green card. I was lucky because i ran into a nice officer. I guess you just need to wait until 30 days before you CG expires, but hey, don't look too deep into it, your ultimate goal is citizenship or the 751 approval. All this is just a small distraction and you will get your stamp when you go as instructed!

Same thing happened to me at SF office. They didn't stamp my passport and I was told to be back in November close to my green card expiration date anniversary. She also told me that it may take 2-3 years to process i-751 cases :(
