Jobs for Immigrants

I don't know if this has ever been posted or if this is the right forum but here it goes. My wife is from Peru, she has her 2yr green card, she can now get a job, but as she doesn't drive she is limited to where she works. I am wondering if any of you have run into this same situation, and hoping some of you may have some advice as to what jobs would be good for her. She does speak english well, only sometimes when people speak fast she doesnt understand. I was wondering if anyone out there found that there were some jobs that were better for someone in this situation or any other advice. oh also she has training as a secretary from when she lived in Peru, but I'm not sure if that will mean anything to the businesses here.

You can certainly have your wife apply for Admin Assistant jobs, ant I would encourage you to look at the companies near your house that might be hiring for this type of position. My husband was previously a policeman, but now that he is here he works a retail job. If you have a mall near your house, walk around to all the stores and apply. That is what we did and it ended up in a job. It has worked out well since he has to speak English all the time to a variety of people who have different accents.

I agree with all the above information. I also would suggest that she applies to places that are on public transit routes or close to public transit routes. When I immigrated to the USA on a K-1 I was 27 and did not have a driver's license. I found a job that was close to public transit until I got my driver's license. Good luck on her job hunt and hope all goes well.

I would suggest you help her get that driving license

i am from NY state also and where you live it is needed

Adil took the driving tests within 2 months / he has the freedom to learn the area and do his own shopping

this is needed so she doesn't feel the 4 walls closing in on her especially with your long winters

help her out here and teach her to drive

Adil says the people talk to fast especially the newspeople and to tell the truth in the South the accent is heavy

she could also apply to restock shelves as she wouldn't have to talk to customers doing that but she could listen and pick up some words
