Even though I was only 5 at the time and had no choice due to I was an infant? Ive only recently found out about all this. I believe my parents obtained them through the lottery??

Yes, your residency was abandoned. (As a child you would not have been allowed to stay in the country on your own and minors are not allowed to make residency decisions).

Sadly, your permanent residency status has been abandoned as you have been out of the country for over a year.

Are your parents by chance also US Citizens or perhaps obtained citizenship prior to leaving the US? If so, you may be able to obtain LPR status through them.

Assuming you are eligible to apply for the Lottery you could do that.

Unfortunately natives from the United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland) are ineligible for the visa lottery. :(

I am surprised your parents never mentioned anything to you. Even if you had known earlier, being out of the country by for a year (at age 6) would have rendered your residency abandoned.

Your parents can make legal decisions for you when you were a minor. Your parents can make the legal decision for you to abandon your green card status.

While it's not automatic, a green card that expired in 2004 and doing nothing to maintain legal residency puts a kibosh in asserting that the OP did not abandon his LPR status. An immigration judge would have no problem with this case.

Without giving the OP false hope, what are the chances of the OP succeeding on the argument that he did not abandoned his LPR status if he has to argue it in front of an immigration judge who can terminate his LPR status for abandonment?

I'm saying zero.

Would you encourage the OP to go this route?
