**** Moving from Bringing Family to CRBA forum *****

Photos and a police check are unlikely to be enough. Do you have school or employment records? Tax filings?

If your criminal records document you were in prison for a total of five years -- 2 of which were after you were 14 -- AND those five years were before the birth of your son, that is sufficient all by itself. Remember -- the time you are trying to document has to be before your child was born. Your son is 17 (born in about 1998, right?), so the time you are documenting is your time in the US prior to 1998. If some/all of your jail time was after that, you will need to show other documentation -- school records, work records, rent receipts or leases or other housing documents, taxes, doctor records, etc. -- anything that shows your were actually in the US during a specific period of time.

In addition to the five years of physical presence in the US, you have to document that this is your biological child. I believe your son said in an earlier post that you had legitimated him a year or so ago. If not, you need to do that as soon as possible. Part of the CRBA application includes you signing a statement that you will support him until he is 18.

It is critical that this paperwork be signed, notarized, and submtted to the Embassy prior to his turning 18. As long as the lawyer is also a notary public, or has a notary in his/her office to notarize your signature on the forms, you can sign them in the US and send them to El Salvador.

no problem if I present records of the police?

I don't see why it would be. Your record has bearing on the case.

I found documents school certificates (1979 and GED (1987) ... dates are separated so the school certificate says it is 1979 and the GED certificate is 1987, serves as evidence ??

and a Salvadoran passport issued in San Francisco in 1997 to use to enter El Salvador
