Hi, I'm an American citizen living in the Philippines. I grew up, married and had my son here, too.

I've filed an I-130 petition last week and am waiting e-Notification. We plan to migrate as soon as my husband gets his visa, with the intention to live in California for good. I've never been there though, but we'll be staying with my sister-in-law who will also serve as a joint sponsor for the visa application process.

My question is, how can I then convince or prove the consular officer that I am/will be domiciled in California?

Thanks in advance!

What is the status of the child? Since you grew up in PI, do you meet the residency requirements for the child to receive derivative citizenship?

Montreal is VERY strict about domicile. Have you started looking for a job in the U.S.? Inquired about school or daycare for your child? Gotten a bank account? registered to vote? Gotten a driver's license? These are all good places to start.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions!

I applied for a CRBA for my son, meeting the requirements from stamps on old/expired passports (when I was younger). Last time I was in the US was 2007-8 and that was only for a vacation.

We will try to enroll my son (via my sister-in-law), assuming we'll (my son and I) be in the US by start of school. (if this is at all allowed)

Another option is, asking my sister-in-law to open an account on my behalf (in my name), again if at all possible/allowed. I'm pretty lost with options, but I'd like to have all three of us (me, my son and my husband) depart Philippines at the same time.
