FLU Vaccination Brazil

Hello

My wifes interview is set for July 1st in Rio de Janeiro. She will be doing her medical a week before. All her vaccines are done except seasonal FLU. She is having a hard time finding Seasonal FLU shot. There is a confusion between seasonal and HINI Vaccines and Seasonal is only being administered to at risk people. USCIS states that for immigration purposes Flu season is from Oct. 1st to March 31st. My questions are the following:

1. Can and will the General surgeon still require her to have it?

2. Does the consulate have the right to over look USCIS guidelines and force the Vaccine?

3. Most importantly will she be denied because of this?

We thank you for any insight you can share.

Has she tried going to a private clinic? I had mine done without a problem last year at around this time, I asked at private vaccination clinics and payed around 150 reais.

There won't be any available at a "posto de saúde", unless, as you said she is part of one of the risk groups, such as the elderly, pregnant women, etc.

I don't know if they will require anyway, since I had mine just before my medical.

Thanks for the reply. I just got good news she was able to get through to the doctor in Rio they told her that due to a shortage all over Brazil. He will not require it. Finally the my wife is a little calmer. Now we wait till July 1st...Pray for us...

ok... thank you all

I see you got your answers. That's good! I've been in the us since December so I didn't know about the shortage, but I did know about the h1n1 outbreak. If the doctor said it's going to be waived, even better, I had a nasty cold, fever and was in a lot of pain after taking the vaccine. Good luck for her!
