My fiancee did not get the Varicella shot in England before she came over on the K1. Now looking for the proper procedure to get this done.

I guess we need to go through a civil surgeon to get accomplished.

My question is do we need to fill out the I-693 and if so, do we only need to fill out the part pertaining to the Varicella shot?

Why didn't she get the shot?

If she had chicken pox as a child, her blood tests should show immunity - and hence no vaccine needed.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

No test for immunity is even needed if she had it as a kid, they have to accept her word on this particular shot. Did she already have a medical exam? If so they may have already addressed the issue and I wouldn't worry about it.

The UK does not give varicella shots. Most tell Knightsbridge, when going over the shots, they had chickenpox, which is easily accepted because most in the UK have actually had it since they don't immunize for it. Look at the immunization form and see if "Varicella history" is ticked. Or even coded for "not routinely available" in the waiver column.

Otherwise, you have to get all immunizations (new and old) copied over to the I-693. Then you would send that instead of the DS-3025.

Thanks Nich-Nick!

The box in not checked, with that being said found your thread about DS3025 or I-693.

I have called a civil surgeon and they said we have to do the whole I-693 well I sent them the record of the shots she has from the DS3025 and the instructions from the government wed site for the I-693 and said to go to Part-3, section-3, subsection-C, paragraph-2 that states all that all that is needed is sections 1,2,4,and 7. I told her that they would not give my now wife a K-1 visa unless she passed the examination part in the first place.

Anyways awaiting a reply from the civil surgeons office

If the civil surgeon says no, there's a great thread on VJ that lists civil surgeons in the U.S. that will just do the vaccination page of the I693 for a small fee.

If you decide to get the shot, just go to your local govt (city, county, state) health dept and get the shot. The USCIS allows all local health departments to act as civil surgeons under a blanket policy (note: only for vaccination purposes, not for the full exam).

You can find this policy here: https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume8-PartC-Chapter3.html

Since most health departments aren't too knowledgeable of this policy, print out this chapter and take it with you. Have them fill out the I693 only parts 1,2,4 & 7 that are applicable. (Also print out the I693 instructions for them).

I did mine this way, also crossing out the exam question as N/A for them. Bring your earlier vaccination paperwork too. Make sure they put doc in a sealed envelope.

Too early so see if any problems as we only filed 2 weeks ago, but it is the USCIS written policy so I don't expect any.

In our case, the embassy approved foreign doctor was so bad, we had to get numerous extra shots (K1:5, K2:6) just to bring everything up to date.

Maybe you have better civil surgeons in your area, but here they all wanted to do the full exam even when you showed them the policy that stated we only needed the vaccinations.

Best of luck to you.

There is a Q&A for Civil Surgeons memo posted that basically says the Civil Surgeon does not have to verify you are a K1, or had a medical, or passed a medical. All he has to do is verify your identity and fill out your immunizations. The rest is between you and USCIS. If what you submit to USCIS is inadequate for your Visa or AOS, you get rejected. For example if you told the Civil Surgeon you had no Class A conditions so didn't need a new medical, that's your problem when USCIS sees you did have a condition that required a new medical.

Question 57 https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/Outreach/Notes%20from%20Previous%20Engagements/2012/May%202012/civil-surgeonQA-11-13-12.pdf

I think the page number references to the form are different than the new form I-693.

Also, you don't have to submit a medical exam with AOS. Newer info says because AOS can take a long time and your exam could expire before adjudication you can delay your exam (for people who need one) until you get an RFE for it or submit it at your interview (if you have an interview). You might want to hold off paying for anything until you know if your K1 exam isn't going to get rejected as expired, sending you back to pay again.

Found on this page https://www.uscis.gov/i-693

If you are applying for adjustment of status, you may submit Form I-693 in one of the following ways:

  • Submit Form I-693 by mail, together with your Form I-485, Application to Register for Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, to the location specified for your Form I-485 (see Direct Filing Addresses for Form I-485).
  • Submit Form I-693 by mail, after filing your Form I-485, to the location specified in your most recent communication with USCIS (for example, a Request for Evidence letter from USCIS).
  • Submit Form I-693 in person, at an interview in a USCIS field office (if an interview is required).

She has been tested in England. It's part of her medical file. That's the problem you have with civil surgeons. They tell you what you MUST do but they are not always correct for a K1.

Did you ask the price?

Did your wife ever have chickenpox?

Easy does it A'n"L, just asking questions as this is the first we ever hear of this

She had all her blood tests done in January with no problems in London.

The correct term is a RPR test as i'm told.

The civil surgeon here is insisting that she gets the RPR test but they would of checked for that and not issued a K1 visa if there were any problems.

All she got for her own records is a copy of the vaccination sheet.

Nich-Nick

She has never had chickenpox to her knowledge.

Hey, chillax! Just asking some relevant questions to help you out. If she had blood drawn, they would/should have tested for syphilis. The K1 medical wouldn't have been approved without it.

I'm confused, what does syphilis have to do with chickenpox?
