Has anybody tried renewing their Philippine passport without filing a Report of Marriage? I was married last 2014 and now seperated with my husband. We are getting divorce soon. Do i still need to report our marriage? My passport will expire on May and I dont want to change my maiden name in my passport.

Thanks!

I don't see why you should have to report it if it's already in divorce proceedings.

I mean we agree to get a divorce. I'm not sure if I should still report the marriage or just renew my passport without changing anything? Is it possible to renew it without doing ROM?

Yeah. I renewed my passport a few years ago in my home country, and they only asked if I was married. They didn't ask to see a certificate, nor did I change my name.

I believe you are required to report your marriage before you can renew your passport, even if you are divorcing. However, you can always renew your passport in your maiden name, even if you are married.

I'm planing to renew it at Washington DC philippine embassy. I wasn't sure if they'll let me renew it without doing the ROM

Wash DC is the toughest of all the Consulate in what they require. The told us that we would have to do the ROM first then the passport and they would not allow them to be completed together. Had to be ROM first then Passport. You may want to call them or email them for their answer. ROM takes about a month. Passport is 6-8 weeks.

No need for completing ROM. No issue with renewing your passport either, simple renew it in your maiden name.

Only need to complete ROM if she were renewing her passport in her MARRIED name, and that is not the situation here.. ;) She can renew her passport in her maiden name without completing ROM

Do I need to update my status and put my husband information in the application form? Or just put single? If I put single isn't that consider as false statement? If I put married won't they asked for marriage certificate that is registered to NSO?

When will the divorce be complete?

BTW - who is filing for the divorce, hopefully your husband.

If the marriage was never reported, then it won't really matter who files. Report of Marriage Abroad is what gets the marriage recorded in the NSO. Without doing so, there is no marriage on record there to get annotated out, with a report of foreign divorce process. Technically, she's required to report it, but Filipinos skip doing it all the time. If I were her, I would not report the marriage, update her passport as single and in her maiden name, and go on with her life.

Yes, I was just trying to cover "potential" issues... IF.

I totally agree with avoiding filing ROM .. it isn't required and for sure best not done considering the turn of events. And for sure renew the passport in her single name, many before that are married have done that without issue.
