Hey Guys,

In the process of applying for my citizenship. I received an interview scheduled notice last week, and then another one turned up yesterday with a different date and time!

Spent an hour talking to USCIS customer service, who initially said she didn't even see that my case was scheduled for an interview, I promptly informed her that I was currently staring at two interview notices! After 20 more minutes on hold, she then said she had never heard of this happening before, and that I should attend on the original interview date just in case!

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Interviews are handled by the local field offices, have you tried contacting them instead of the uscis customer service? If they don't answer calls, try to make an infopass appointment at the earliest available time.

Doesn't look like the Jacksonville office accepts calls. I live about 2 hours from the office, I figure I will just show up for the original interview date, if there's a problem, I will show up to the next one!

If it is two hours away, as you say show up at the first date just in case.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Your interview was almost certainly rescheduled for the second date and time. If you go to the original appointment you'll likely be told that your interview was rescheduled and that they sent a second letter.

This isn't all that rare.

Still, I would do exactly as you suggested, unless it's very inconvenient to go to the first appointment... just in case the second letter was a mistake (which is very unlikely).

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, although I didn't receive any communication saying so, and the customer service agent also said that she doesn't see that the first interview was cancelled.

Hi I'm in the same situation! I received a letter from the local field office that my n400 interview is still currently scheduled for June 1st at Jax office (after I requested to have my case expedited but they denied it) and three days later I get a letter from NBC that my interview is on June 13th. I called the 800 number and after waiting 30 min for someone to call me back, I was told to go to both dates! I live five hours away!

That's idiotic. They don't have 2 dates for you in their system. They should be able to tell you which day your interview is. But the first person you talk to when you call doesn't have that information.

Call back and insist on speaking to a Tier 2 representative. That will actually be an immigration officer who has your interview date on his computer screen. If they won't transfer you, tell them you live 5 hours away and you're just going to keep calling until someone transfers you. If you get an immigration officer and he won't tell you the date, just say the same thing and call back until you get another one.

I think it's a little strange when applicants keep calling to get fat waiver the phone because they don't want to wait a week for a letter that's already been mailed, but in some cases, like yours, there's a very valid reason to keep nagging them until you get an answer. If they give you some nonsense about not being able to give you the date on the phone, ask them to mail another letter with the real date (or fax it if you have access to a fax machine or an efax service). There's still time to get a letter and that'll confirm the date.

One more thing... when they reschedule an interview, they are supposed to send a descheduling notice for the first interview... it may just be late... if you get one in the next few days, then your first interview really was canceled and you should go to the second interview only. If you don't get such a letter, then either one of the interview letters could have been a mistake and you won't know which one is the really date without help from USCIS.

Good luck.

Hey Chorley80, did you end up going to the first scheduled date?

You guys are lucky. People are waiting and begging for a Interview and you guys are Scheduled for two :)

That's what I will do. I will call 1-800 number and insist to talk to Tier 2 officer. They can see in their system your Interview dates if they tell you to go to first interview I will go on First date preferably and after the interview tell the interviewing officer to cancel the second interview as there is no requirement for it and it should cancel automatically.

Well I didn't want to speculate yesterday but I suspected I was also scheduled two interviews and today it turned out to be true. Here's the story; on 5/16 I received both txt and email notices an interview was scheduled. Next day, on 5/17 the online status updated once more for interview scheduled. For this I didn't receive any email or txt, just online status changed. I wasn't sure if this was a second interview notice or maybe a notice for mailing, so decided to wait.

Yesterday the first notice came in mail postmarked from NBC, interview for 6/24 Friday at 2:45pm. Today the second one came in mail postmarked from Boston field office, interview for Wednesday 6/29 at 9am. I am guessing NBC overbooked Boston schedule for that Friday afternoon and Boston office gave me a new date next day. I don't plan to take any action maybe for another 2-3 weeks, hopefully a descheduling confirmation for the first one would come. If not, then try to call customer service to confirm. Worst case, I plan to show up to the first one just in case. Let's see.

All right an update on my case. I have not received any cancellation notice for the 6/24 interview so far. Today I called the customer service and Tier1 immediately escalated my call to Tier2. System said 53 minutes waiting time, I chose the option I wanted to be called back. About 2 hours later received the phone call, and another 3-4 minutes waiting Tier2 picked up the phone. A nice gentleman. He first confirmed my info and when I told him I have two notices, he said sometimes people get two notices but system should only show one and asked me to hold to confirm. He came back with a giggly tone and said he also saw both appointments in the system with no cancellations on either. Eventually suggested if it is not a big deal go to the first one and they will most likely conduct my interview because there wasn't any cancellation notice and if not go back to the second one. I asked if there is any way to call the field office to confirm but he said since the system does not show a cancellation notice, he didn't see a reason why they wouldn't conduct the interview that day. I said thank you and hung up.

Making an InfoPass at this stage will not be any different than going to that first interview and apart from taking time off from work, honestly it's not a big deal. Hopefully they will proceed with my interview on the 24th but I will update if they tell me to go home and come back on the 29th. Let's see.

A final update on this from my side. I went to the field office with the expectation that they would just tell me sorry but come back on Wednesday the 29th. I was wrong, they did my interview. I will tell how the interview went on the March 2016 thread but related to this one this is how it turned out.

I went to the JFK building very close to my appointment time 2:45pm. After I walked in the lady at the desk asked for my interview letter. I said I had two. She wasn't even surprised and said just give the one for today. I asked if I would be interviewed today and she said oh yes you will be. It was as if they knew people had two interview letters today. Anyway when I went there were only about 7-8 people in the waiting area, which was weird because the waiting area was big enough to accommodate 200 probably.

Anyway eventually my name was called by an office and when we were walking in I asked if it is this quiet here usually and truth came out. She said they do not schedule interviews on Fridays at the Boston office but for whatever reason interviews were scheduled for today. Not sure if everyone else had two interview letters like I did but they were conducting interviews for whoever showed up. She asked if I received any descheduling notice for this one when I said I have another letter but I said no. That's how the interview started. I am glad I showed up today and done with them. Hope this would be helpful for future reference.
