Why would his prison time affect her application? It's her they are issuing a visa for, not him. She only needs to worry if it's a crime that falls under the Adam Walsh Act - Google that for more info. We are of course assuming that she played no part in this crime.

My husband has done prison time. Not much but some. It doesn't concern me that we might not be approved.

Same reason why most people get married; out of love, making a commitment, wanting to build a future together. Considering that in the US, you go to prison for pretty much everything and anything and the fact that the US has the highest amount of incarcerated people in the world, inmate weddings are much more common than "it happens".

My lack of understanding of why someone would marry someone who is currently an inmate has zero effect on anyone's relationship. Whatever floats yer boat sweetheart.

Dating and marrying someone who had been to prison is a little different than dating and marrying someone who is currently in prison. If none of that dating occurred outside of prison, I again, don't understand why, but again, whatever floats yer boat.

And no, people aren't sent to prison for anything and everything. I've never seen the inside of a prison. I have maybe one family member who has even been in the drunk tank, and maybe a couple friends, but that's about it. My husband can't think of anyone either. But there are 330 million people here, obviously someone has been chucked in prison for something irrationally stupid.

Actually sadly that's true. One only has to read or listen to the news to know that people are thrown in prison for everything and that there are a lot of innocent people in prison. Even children are put in prison. Sure, if you're white middle class you probably don't have much experience of it but if you're poor or God forbid a poor African-American male, that's a whole different story. But this is a visa support forum, so not the best place for a prison reform debate, a debate that is thankfully already happening in both federal and local government as well as in the media.

Again... my lack of understanding of why someone would choose to do something, should have zero impact on their choice, their ability to make that choice, or the process in which they make that choice. I do not care to learn about why someone would make that choice. That is my decision to remain ignorant on a subject in which I have zero interest.

OP, USCIS takes on average about five months to review and make a decision on the petition.
