Good Day All,

Can someone shed so light please?

I was speaking with someone in Costa Rica who helps to build K1 packages for a dating service. She said that the Embassy will absolutely not approve a K1 Visa for those who do not know each other for at least 18 months.

Can this be right? Everything I see on the forums, I see nothing like this.

We have know each other 6 months. I travel to Costa Rica every month to see her. We do live together there. I am heavily involved in her life. I even walk her children to and from school every day when I am there.

Thank you for your help, I can not imagine having to wait another 12 months.

So many questions. Can you clarify by what you mean that someone is building K1 packages for a dating service?

There's no minimum requirement for how long you must have known each other - only that you have met within 2 years face-to-face of the petition filing date.

Thank you for the incredibly fast response.

I joined a dating service in Escazu. I no longer have confidence in them for several reasons. However, I met a lady with 3 awesome children on my own. The lady in the office who helps to prepare you for the K1 Visa process gave us advice. It all seems to conflict with what I see on VisaJourney.

She told us:

18 months minimum?

can not exchange any finaces - they will question the foundation of our relationship. What man wouldn't help if he could?

I was told not to attend the interview?

I do not see anything like this on the forum.

We exchanged vows between each other on the beach at sunset in Manuel Antonio. I love her children. I never thought i wanted children again in my life until i met hers. We totally live as a family when I am there.

I am afraid to get everyone's expectations up and then have us all disappointed.

Things to be concerned about:

Have I met fiancé within two years of filing the application?

Do I have evidence of this meeting?

Do I have evidence of a relationship regardless of it's length of duration?

Is there any serious criminal convictions?

Have I read the guides and all instructions for filing the application?

Are we truthful and honest during our embassy interview?

Have I done anything that might be already seen as 'technically' married with this person and would automatically cause suspicion on filing for a fiancé visa rather than a marriage visa. (In your case you mentioned vows being exchanged.. so you might want to check up on what that entails and how that would look to an IO.. if you're already visiting her so much, you might want to tie the knot and go for a spousal...)

Otherwise... no idea what the person is talking about.

Maybe i should elaborate. The lady was suppose to help us know what documents we would need for the application and guide us through the process. She shared with me about gathering financial records, divorce decree from the court, Same basic information many cover on this forum.

We also discussed the interview process. Her opinion was that Costa Rica Consulate does everything possible to deny the Visa.

We were told that the children should not speak at the interview. Her children love me. Their feelings for me by itself would help to establish a true relationship.

After meeting someone, it was like they gave you every fear about moving forward.

This you should definitely keep out no pictures or anything like that.

Thank you for your help.

I am much more confident now about moving forward. This forum is awesome. Hope I can help others as much as you have helped me.

When I said exchange vows on the beach, it was just symbolic of us moving our relationship forward before applying for the Visa. Nothing official took place. We thought that moment would also help us show the sincerity of the relationship.

I realized that i should get a second opinion of those who have been through the experience. Thanks for everything. I feel pretty confident with most everything else.

Understood. But mentioning such ceremonies, though they be symbolic, a custom, or a courting ritual can be viewed in some cases suspiciously. That would seem to be the only issue I would think, if it should ever be mentioned in an interview.

The kids won't be there at the interview to validate your relationship.

Do some reading here on VJ to learn about the process and then choose your path K1 or CR1. Big differences once they are in the US as far as being able to work, enroll kids in school, etc.

You and the beneficiary will have to give evidence of a bona fide relationship. Do some reading in the regional forum to see what the embassy there typically requires.

18 months minimum? False

can not exchange any finaces - they will question the foundation of our relationship. What man wouldn't help if he could? That is normally good advice. Sending money may make is seem like you are buying the person.

I was told not to attend the interview? Because you may make approval more likely?

I do not see anything like this on the forum.

You are good to go. Focus on the evidences of a legitimate relationship.
